Boogie Down

Running, rowing, tennis, football, windsurf, biking, swimming, theatrical productions.  It's amazing what is available on this small greek island.  Another activity in which the grandaughters take part  all year long is dancing.  They learn the dozens of different greek dances plus tango, waltz, rock and roll and even bollywood.

This week we all went to see one of the girls in her end of year presentation.

The tinies opened the show
So cute.  One of them burst into tears and ran off to Mama for the first dance but was happy to come back in her ballet tutu for the second appearance

Maria is the dance teacher.  She was out there on the sidelines to help them remember the steps and stood in when one of the kids was missing a partner

The boys doing a very popular greek dance called the 'hasapiko', the butcher's dance

  • Here is our tall Poppi, second from the end on the right,  smile on her face, swinging it Bollywood style

  1. Well done to all. Fantastic to see you got the videos to work
My daughter danced from four till she got pregnant with her first around 24 so we had many years of costumes and concerts. I miss those days and have twice now put on her concert videos for melody to watch. She is amazed her mother is on stage and tries to do the same actions lol

  2. I would never think that bollywood style dancing is taught where you are but it's neat she is learning all sorts of dancing.

  3. One of my teaching positions was at a well-known girls (private) school. They had their own amphitheatre where the girls performed GREEK DANCING. They all hated it; especially the outfits.

    1. OOOOhh. Bet it came in handy on their greek island holidays though, impressed a few of the local lads
Most of the costumes are heavy long dresses and headscarves, not what young girls want!

  4. I think it is great that they all learn to dance, and enjoy it. I have two left feet and have always sat out the dancing!

  5. Ahh yes, sat on the sidelines of many a dance recital, volunteered my time, supervised little girls who tapped and tapped and tapped... I think the Bollywood style is so neat. I'm sure my daughter would have loved to learn that, too. -Jenn
