Not for vegans or the faint hearted!
We were invited for a roast dinner today
The meat was surprisingly tender and there was no 'ripe goat' smell.
It slow cooked in the oven for 3 or 4 hours with olive oil, lemon juice and oregano. No salt or pepper. Lots of potatoes too.
It was only 17 kilos so it wasn't one of the bigguns.
Neighbour says he won't shoot at anything unless it's on his land. The herd got under the wire a few days ago. Fair game. They'd damaged quite a few olive trees .
One down, the rest scarpered and haven't returned ....yet.
The leaks were patched up but K just told me there's now water bubbling up from the road right outside our gate
Despite everything it looks and sounds very tasty.
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious and I didn't have to shoot it, skin, chop or cook it. Or do the dishes afterwards!
DeleteSounds like a perfect roast dinner then.
DeleteI bet it's gorgeous especially with your Mediterranean spicesand recipes. I have ate goat and it's supposed to be very good for you with little cholesterol.
ReplyDeleteGoat generally has less fat. This one didn't have much at all. Too much roaming. Tastes the same as lamb to me
DeleteI do like goat meat. We used to have it regularly when we lived in Tenerife but it is not widely available in the UK. There is a small goat farm near us here but the meat is very expensive and the slaughter periods are quite infrequent so we only buy it as a treat.
ReplyDeleteIt's more expensive than lamb here. An Easter treat, usually
ReplyDeleteThat sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteYummy. Yes if you come onto my property and eat my vegetation then I’ll eat you!
ReplyDeleteIt’s lovely you got to enjoy the spoils.
I was buying Goat cheese recently and asked the man if he ever had 'kid' for sale. He said he did, but I'd have to add my name to a long list. I didn't bother.
ReplyDeleteNo 'ripe goat' smell... LOL... Yes, not for vegans for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have never had goat. The photos, it’s a good thing you put a warning (although I didn’t find it distasteful)! Glad that it turned out so good and you didn’t have to clean up! Win-win!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat! It sounds delicious :)
ReplyDeleteLove love love a good roast but I cant say I'm a fan of goat, mind you the only time I tried it was about 15 years ago and it was tough, maybe it wasn't cooked right.
ReplyDeleteThe best BBQ I ever ate was goat meat in Greece. Do you marinade the meat first or how is your oil, lemon, oregano applied? Keeping the wild goat herd under control sounds like a good and tasty environmental deed for your island.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good meal.
