Tis the Season

Mid winter.  The lettuces are flourishing, the leeks are trying hard, rocket is growing to the sky and the weeds are lovin' it.

Those are nasturtiums in the rear. Some of the leaves are as big as dinner plates. Were, as big as dinner plates.  Last week's icy weather burnt a lot of them.

The lettuces and leeks survived. We've eaten a few of those lettuces now and the leeks have filled out a bit. I also did some weeding

The front garden is still green. There is rocket in a pot which has grown skywards. I peel off the lower leaves. It's a really spicy rocket. The red chillies are more fiery than spicy.

In this jumble is also a pot with lettuces and onions. They survived too and are ready for picking.

Vegetables in season. I'm cooking artichokes with carrots and peas in an egg and lemon sauce.

    1. Somehow I don't think I wrote that blog very clearly. The only abundance is weeds. In my garden are lettuces, rocket, spring onions and a lot of clover, which is not 4 leafed. Oh and the leeks. They seem to do ok. We've eaten a few and theyre still growing. The artichokes and carrots are from the green grocer. I could grow broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower but they usually don't grow very well. Much cheaper and easier to buy those.

  3. A nice haul there.
It good when you get enough each day for dinner. But it’s great when you get enough to preserve as well
I’m hopeful I’ll be doing lots of preserving this year

    1. Leeks and lettuce salad and that's about all. It has been to cold and wet to look after the garden so its mainly weeds but I make sure they don't choke the vegetables, mostly.

    1. An abundance of trifili. A pity you cant eat it. But the nasturtiums are doing very well this winter and are slowly taking over. I love the greenery and of course their flowers later on. We have been eating great lettuce salads with that spicy rocket. The leeks have been handy too. They are still growing to their fullness.

  7. yum artichokes, sad we can't really buy them fresh here, they are usually canned or in a jar pickled. So do you use the nasturtium flowers in salads?

    1. I slip a few nasturtium leaves into our salads, without hubby seeing. He thinks they are inedible weeds although he has eaten quite a few lol
