Lemons, Lemons Everywhere

  Lemons, lemons everywhere

Madness on the brink

Lemons, lemons everywhere

Too many drops too drink

Lemons on the bench

Lemons on the floor

Lemons in a basket

Lemons in a barrow

When our trees are full of lemons then so are everyone else's
We can't even give them away.  They have started dropping now, a dozen or so a day and have to be dealt with.  The house is full of them so now I'm filling up the wheelbarrow as they fall.

-  Lemon honey and Lemonade
Lemon Honey recipe (known also as lemon curd) is on
'The English Kitchen' site
Look for the post 'Lemon Curd and a darned good Lemon Drizzle Cake'.
I only made two jars and have to get them out of my home.  I can hear them calling.  Lemon honey, as it is known in NZ, is beyond delectable.  Sweet and tart at the same time and gloriously lemony.
These are for my two girls and the grandchildren.

-  Homemade lemonade?   Simmer one big mug of water and one big mug of sugar till the sugar has dissolved.  Add one big mug and a little more of fresh lemon juice. Bottle.  Keeps a few weeks in the fridge.

When making lemonade take a water glass and put in a quarter to a third of lemon sugar syrup.  Top with cold water and ice.

I finally made Cro's preserved lemons.
Two jars, one using the recipe he recommends

https://www.cookingwithalia.com/moroccan-preserved-lemons-2/

You can watch her doing this recipe on Youtube too

And the other I made using lemon slices instead of the whole lemon

-Limoncello is next on the list.

  1. "If life gives you lemons, don’t just make lemonade!
What the hell am I supposed to do with all these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give me all these lemons!”

    1. Pee, wood ash and goat droppings help them flourish!!
I bet you haven't any of that, except the first. We were lucky, the trees were already old when we moved in

  3. Same here, although still a bit early. When they are ripe they are everywhere. The Lions club does collect them and send down to the South Island.

    1. I remember a big old lemon tree at the top of our drive in Te Puke and it always seemed to have lemons. We didn't use them much back then

  5. You certainly have a load of lemons. Can you quarter some and freeze for tasty iceblocks in the warmer months?

  6. That's a lot of lemons. I made lemon marmalade once - not as sweet as the orange kind.

  11. Does your lemon honey need eggs? F made some and was dismayed by the amount of egg and butter needed to use up not a lot of lemon. Mr B made lemon marmalade but it didn't set very well - so F is now making lemon marmalade cakes ..... The htings you humans do to use up a glut. (Speaking of glut - have you seen the news about the mouse plague in Aus? I reckon we could ship them some Greek cats to sort that out.)

  12. The lemon honey needs lots of eggs and butter. It's not a good way to get rid of lemon juice but it does taste wonderful. I made lemon marmelade once and threw it out. Can't remember the taste exactly but it wasn't pleasant. I might try again but mix in a couple of oranges. We've just been given a huge bag.
I've got a couple of cats here id love to send to Australia. Not at all civilised or intelligent. No relations of yours Tigger I'm sure
