Sardines and Bay Leaves

Sardines, bayleaves and NZ football victory

A few branches of bay leaves drying under the umbrella in the summer heat

Sardines
sometimes we eat them grilled
sometimes we eat them fried
Today we ate them baked, for twenty minutes, with onions, fresh grated tomatoes and lots of garlic

After scoring NZ's goal against Norway
NZ 1 - Norway 0

The FIFA Women's World Cup opened in Auckland NZ yesterday with a win for the Football Ferns (name of the NZ team)

It was a terrific game, shown live on Greek TV.  That was a huge surprise.
I watched the game, only because the kiwis were playing and it had me urging them on and actually enjoying the game.
Meantime I was having a football conversation on social media with friends in England, sending results to family in Malaysia, reading the live commentary on a NZ website while watching in Greece.  Isn't it a wonderful world

  1. Hannah is a Whangarei girl. Her father is a local G.P. so extra special here. Glad you had the match live there.

  2. There are many good things about technology and we are a fortunate generation to just get in on it. Ladies football is much purer than the men and a joy to watch.

  3. Live on our tv, The Golfer watched this game followed a few hours later by the Australia v Ireland one. I viewed from a distance, not my favourite sport - no matter who is playing.
Would have been quite a day for you to enjoy.

  5. Well done kiwis. Australia did really well too. I’m so happy womens sports are finally getting the recognition it deserves.

  6. So much sport on TV atm here in Perth. Aussie rules is in full flight, Women’s FIFA World Cup, Rugby Championship & Bledisloe Cup (go All Blacks), Aust vs England cricket, US Open tennis soon, Wimbledon just finished, Netball World Cup starts this month, F1 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday (Perth boy Danny Ricciardo racing for Alpha Tauri). It’s all happening!!

  9. Afraid our girls didn't do as well as expected. I think maybe they underestimated the Nigerian team! They play Ireland next on the 26th.

  10. I only ever fry my Sardines in Olive oil. I do love them out of tins too (in Olive oil)

    1. I prefer them fried or those in the tin. Trouble is I love the oil as well though at least now I don't mop it up with bread
