At Home

The grape vine is greening up.  The young leaves will have to be gathered for dolmathes before they get too big and tough.

Our grandaughter came and scrubbed small rugs a few days ago and here they are hanging out on the fence.  Thank goodness they are dry and can be brought in to be stored away.  That great tractor/digger thing spent all day digging up next door's driveway so they can bury their electric cable, from gate to house.  That's something new around here.  There was quite a bit of dust, to add to the Saharan dust already in the air.

A few stuffed tomatoes for a couple of lunches

  1. You can fill the JCB bucket with grape leaves or use it to transport the Dolmathes around Poros. 😊

    1. I'm sure she'd love to. What a pity that you're not allowed to travel just now 😂 otherwise...

  3. Good job on the spring cleaning. It’s so lovely your grandchildren come to help
Currently I’m watching a very foggy autumn morning so very different to your weather

    1. We are darn lucky they come and help. In a few years they'll all be too grown up. Lovely warm days here. I'm not complaining, yet

    1. A stuffed vine leaf, rice and sometimes meat. Very middle Eastern and a favourite here.

    1. They were a success this time. Plenty of basil, mint and parsley.

  6. My vines are doing very well; plenty of forming grape bunches. Do you boil your vine leaves before freezing? I might preserve a few this year.

    1. I put them in boiling water for a minute or so, till they change colour. And I freeze them flat in a large covered bowl so they are protected while frozen and brittle.
I put 30 in one batch. Quite a few but they last for days

  7. I love dolmathes, we can get them from a good food store up in Melbourne. Your stuffed tomatoes look wonderful.

    1. We get them tinned here. They're not too hard to make. Nice with an egg and lemon sauce for a change instead of the plainer lemon and olive oil.

  8. We trust they weren't digging while your rugs were drying. We had rug beating day just before all that dust so the main one was all rolled up in a giant piece of calico when things got really choking around here. It might have been the strangest of years but now the sun is shining it feels like the seasons have rolled around in double quick time

    1. Luckily, or unluckily, that machine made a lot of noise. The rugs were dry and came inside very quickly

  9. I always like having clean carpets and rugs in the Spring, gets all the dust mites out.
