Monday

I pulled something in my back lifting the mattress.  I can walk but bending down or getting up from a chair is a bit of a battle.  A voltaren tablet and a few rubbings of counterpain have helped a little.

K is on shopping and hanging out the washing duty.

He spent the morning on the phone trying to convince the phone company to send us  copies of phone bills for a friend of ours so she can complete her paperwork for her after-brexit permit.  This was the fourth call in a few weeks.  After being nice and friendly and promising to send us an email they suddenly, today, decided it couldn't be done.  Now I've just switched on the computer and find an email from them with all the details she needs.

Hallelujah .

Meanwhile back in the kitchen I blanched and froze a bag of wild asparagus given to us by an inlaw who walks the hills everyday and gathers whatever he finds, greens, avocados, asparagus, herbs, oranges and lemons. His backpack always gets filled.

And I made an asparagus omelette for lunch

I couldn't walk today so here are a couple of photos I took on  recent outings

These two dogs run up to the fence and bark savagely at me everytime I decide to walk past their house.  It doesn't matter how softly I creep along the road they will hear me and come barking and jumping.  Thank goodness there is a strong fence between them and me.  I don't want to find out if their bark is worse than their bite.

When I want to avoid dogs and people I drive my quad bike up to the road above and walk along to the ancient ruins.  I wander around, sit and contemplate amongst the pines and olives and wonder what is was like 2,000 years ago.

The photo is of a piece of pottery.  New, old or ancient?
A friend of mine came up here one day with me and told me to look at the ground and showed me how to see these small shards.  She knew how old they were, more or less.  I look and imagine

  2. I do hope your back improves quickly. How wonderful to be able to collect all that bounty on a local walk.

  3. Sorry to hear about your back pain and hope it goes away soon.
Many years ago when we went on walking holidays to places were there may be feral dogs we invested in a gadget called a Dog Dazer. our postman had recommended it! It is supposed to emit a high frequency sound that is meant to deter the dogs from approaching for a while. After we bought it we never got the opportunity to see if it worked!

    1. Most of the dogs here are tied up and every house has one. Some of them you can stop and have a chat with. Not these. I should at least carry a stick. A dog tazer would do these too good. They have bitten someone in the past

  4. I'm not a big fan of dogs with scary barks. I stopped walking one route because of a dog that isn't prevented from rushing out on the road to bark and growl at you.
    Wild asparagus? Imagine. -Jenn

    1. I'd change my route too if these two weren't behind a fence. Even though they can't get out they are very scary.
Wild asparagus, yes...but. I've never collected it but have heard it's not easy.

  5. I hope your back feels better soon. Making the bed is the worst for back pain
Yes I love dogs but strange dogs I have never met scare me
No matter what size. They can all bite
    Take care

    1. When you see big dogs and they bark you never know what might happen. Darn these two.

  6. So sorry you 'threw your back out,' as the old saying goes. We have to remember, we aren't as *pliable* as we used to be!!! >,-)

    That asparagus omelette looks yummmmyyyy!!!

And those dogs look vicious! Brrrrrr.....
Best to ride by them, and walk later on.

Sit and wonder, what it was like ages ago....... Sounds like something I'd like to do. I do that, in old houses, over here. And your surroundings are ancient!

  7. I hope your back gets better soon, can be very uncomfortable. Your in law is a good gatherer. Love asparagus. You have so much history there. Hope the dogs stay behind the fence!

    1. This particular in-law has been scavenging all his life. He grew up in a very poor family many years ago. He lived some days on lemons and whatever else he could find he says when he was a boy.
He's darn good at finding sustenance!

  8. Hope your back is better soon. Love the idea of filling a backpack with foraged food every day - what a great incentive to go walking!

    1. Back is slightly better today thanks.
In law walks for hours every day, knows every path around and every orchard and asparagus patch. He will at least comes home with wild greens which his wife has to clean and wash. They do eat healthily and we often get the extra

  9. Sorry to read about the back - a warm wheat bag? F has seen shards on the side of Mt Parnitha behind Athens and wondered if people lived up there. So how old are those ones of yours?

    1. I've got a heat pad which is perfect now that it's a bit chilly outside.
The shard in the photo I think is modern. It's too big for a start. There was once a house on the site and it probably comes from there. But, shhhh, I do have a tiny shard which I think is ages old. It's interesting to stare at the dust on the summer . There are many tiny pieces

  10. We have two dogs like that - one behind our place where I hang out our washing and the other up the driveway. Both behind a fence but like you I'd hate to meet them face to face! I hope you back gets better soon, my back is out too but slowly improving (I hope).

    1. Hope you make a swift recovery. You don't need a back problem as well.
Our next door neighbours dog used to bark at us and I'd go down and tell him off, reminding him we'd neighbours for many years. But he was an old softy really. These ones I'm not too sure about. I know they have nipped someone in the behind

  11. Here, too, we sometimes find 2,000-year-old pottery, and the imagination of course works.

    1. I really would like to know a little more of how they lived up here. There was a huge temple, medical centre, market, harbour and there's so little left

    1. I agree. I've found voltaren is better than others. I've got voltaren tablets but not the gel. Someone will have to make a trip down to the chemist
