War Zone

4.30pm. Still siesta time. Only sound, the cicadas .

Just now there was a very loud blast from a shotgun. Very close, too close.  Bits of something hit the side of the house.

What the hell. I'm not going outside to investigate.

Someone taking a pot shot at a rabbit or a rogue goat. Or a maniac?  Have to presume it's not a maniac. It's mid summer, we are having a heat wave. Every door and window is wide open.

I'll get K onto this. This is an OMG and WTF.

We think it was closest-neighbour protecting his newly sprouting garden, with 100 young corn plants plus an abundance of other budding vegetables, from a hungry rabbit.

Frequently we hear gunshots, from faraway, in and out of hunting season, but never this close.

  1. Get the tin hat on. Hope your house isn't damaged by shrapnel?

    1. I always look at the clock too. You never know!
He must have been shooting at a moving target and hit the ground, or the bunny on the ground, for stones to fly up.
      Oh we will find out!

  4. Are there no hunting regulations (e.g. you cannot fire within so many feet of a residential area)? Not acceptable. -Jenn

    1. Not acceptable at all. Someone is going to get a yelling at.
I'm sure there is some sort of regulation. No one around here would worry about that. Anything that gets on your property is fair game. Lucky it was the hottest time of the day and we were inside.

    1. Oh K will sort them out! Just have to make a few inquiries. Whoever it was will probably be telling the story and boasting about it.

  6. If he was protecting a corn crop he's probably sheared it all off with shotgun pellets. That, quite frankly, is terrifying so close to homes. What happened to rabbit traps? (The humane kind)
