Not a Fair Exchange

Remember our back garden?

As it was after the clean-up

More treasures being removed.
Two more old washing machines.
I might add that these machines had been kept for spare parts and did come in handy.  Time to get rid of them though

Another pile to take away

But first

There is a new delivery.  50 metres of solid railings removed from a property that is being renovated.  They just need to be sanded and painted.  Then our old rusty, inferior , railings will be removed and hopefully disposed of and these put in their place.

Meantime, we have a new treasure pile, in a neighbour's field.

Our old roof tiles are now joined by railings

The audience

You didn't think that was 'the end'?
Of course not.  The latest treasure is brought in.
Another old hot water cylinder which will be made into another handsome bbq.  K does do a good job with these.  But not till the winter.  It needs a blow torch and blow torches send off sparks.  We don't want any sparks around here.

So our back yard area now has a 'new' cylinder and a summer table was rescued along with two chairs.

  1. Treasure for sure. Could you use the water tank to make an out door solar shower? save on some electricity. You could also use it as a water butt saving some water for gardening? the railings are a real find. they are super expensive

    1. Don't give him ideas !! K has made about half a dozen BBQs with these cylinders. We have one on the garden too, cut in half and used as a planter.
The railings are a really good find. They're solid metal and will last forever.

  6. I had considered making a Pizza oven from an old Oil Drum, but I think I'll leave it for a winter project (I might use the sparks excuse). Good to be rid of all that stuff.

    1. I jump for joy every time something is taken away. I hope it stays, more or less, clear for a short while at least so I can admire the view

  8. At least there is a turn-over of treasures. The view changes and the creative juices have something else to think on for a while. We've see 'firepits' made out of the stainless steel washing machine drums.... we agree not suitable for a Greek summer tho.

    1. He collects the glass inserts in the front of front-loaders too. We have at least half a dozen which he uses as food bowls. I don't . They are too darn heavy. We have a metal drum as a wood container in the winter.
He loves to recycle machine parts

  9. Or your could go in for 'solar ovens' - there's something to think on.

  10. I tried to get him to make a solar cooking but he wasn't hooked. However, a solar oven using this cylinder. would give him something to spend a few hours researching. Always a good thing. One of my s in laws is very environmentally umm, aware. He might be interested too
