29th July
The Apostles Pavlos and Petros, feminine Pavlina and Petroula, have their fiesta today. That's Peter and Paul to you. Also a name day for those named Apostolos and Apostolia.
We had another away day, off to the city of Korinth again. All of Korinth was closed down because Petros and Pavlou is the patron saint.
Korinth Canal
We sat in one of the squares and had coffee
Our view, a small olive tree
No shops were open so we did our business and retreated before the temperature climbed above 30.
We stopped off to take a look at the canal on our way to Nafplio last year after the taxi driver very kindly offered to do so. It is certainly an impressive sight. We didn't have time to see much more though but I am sure we would have enjoyed coffee in a square looking at an olive tree!
ReplyDeleteitwas good coffee too and a cheese pie which wasn't too greasy. I always stop at the canal when we have visitors. Usually, as in this pic there are no boats.
DeleteA year has gone by since your visit! So much has happened in one year. Wonder when you will be travelling next
That's an amazing canal. It looks like straight down through rock!
ReplyDeleteI love stopping here but so more interesting if there is a boat passing through
DeleteLovely canal - pity no boat to show size.
ReplyDeleteI found an incredible photo online. Iight just post it
DeleteThat canal is pretty incredible in the size of the walls around it. As for the olive tree mmmmm I am a total olive freak. Doesn't matter if it's black or green I love them.
ReplyDeleteThis one of three or four. They must have been trimmed into a round shape. I almost wasn't sure at first if it was an olive. It's a good choice, always green
DeleteThe canal looks an amazing feat of engineering and navigation.
