Another fish dish
We are still eating the fish, fresh frozen, that were handed over the gate a few weeks ago
These were caught in a net down in a bay round the back of the island. They were wild but possibly escapees from the fish farm nearby. They were delicious.
K cooks the fish. I do make fish soup now and again and I am the fryer of salt cod but K is the fish specialist. He catches them , he cleans them and he cooks them
These are scaled and gutted but still have their heads and tails.
the fish is called tsipoura in greek
the english translation seems to bream
It is a great fish for the bbq or grill, fried and baked
K baked this as you can see with strips of carrot, zucchini and onion, white wine and olive oil. Sometimes he adds thin slices of potato too
We don’t have a fish shop close. So we have to get our fish from the supermarket. And you rarely find whole fish. Mostly fillets
ReplyDeleteLove whole baked fish. Looks yummy
I do prefer fillets but filled fish is not often on the menu here. K is appalled by how much of the fish they throw away
DeleteLooks delicious!
ReplyDeleteWhen it is cooked and cleaned for me I can't complain!
DeleteThat looks good.
ReplyDeleteFrozen but fresh frozen from the sea below us
DeleteI ate some excellent Fish Fingers last night. Almost the same thing!
ReplyDeleteMy s-in-law makes homemade fish fingers for his children. Were yours homemade???
DeleteI don't think I have ever eaten bream but I would be happy to have a plateful of that. Guess the fish finger sandwich which I had planned (as a naughty treat) for lunch, will have to suffice. I'm glad to see that Cro succumbs to that kind of food occasionally! Are fish fingers even available in Greece? Surely not!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, fish fingers can be found even in our little/big supermarket. Captain Igloo is on the shelf. My daughter used to buy them for her childrens parties. I like fish fingers!!!
DeleteJust sat down to read your blog with Saturday coffee - the one taken in leisurely repose after the laiki trip....fresh olive bread and some late strawberries for 'breakfast' today.
ReplyDeleteThat fish does look good. Tell us - why do some fish at the laiki get arranged in a curved pose rather than lying flat like you'd expect them to?
The fish curl up in rigor mortis. I suppose that is why or is it the fishmonger trying to be artistic? I haven't seen a fishmongers for a long time. I'll take notice next time I'm passing through the market.
DeleteStrawberries here have already vanished but we actually have a bakery with fancy bread. Sounds great
Yum!
ReplyDeleteYou know all about fresh fish living on an island!
DeleteI love barter.
ReplyDeleteSo do I most of the time but I could do with considerably fewer lemons.
DeleteFish fresh from the sea is so good. Fried in the pan and eaten with lemon and bread and butter for me.
ReplyDeleteWe always have the bread but not often the butter. I forget to get it out of the fridge now, but love it when, rarely, we get a roll and some butter at a taverna.
DeleteI never get fresh ocean fish, but trout is available around here! That looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of home. My brothers love trout fishing. They smoke a lot of it. Darn tasty
