Nothing much to write about it seems. The weather is getting hotter but not unbearable.
Trying to solve the traffic problem. Free bicycles. Well almost free, 1 euro for 1 hour.
Park your car down the end of town, walk into the centre with its cafés and tavernas, take a bike or there's the free bus in the background.
In midsummer there's a water taxi too which goes from one end of the harbour to the other.
We shouldn't have traffic problems but midsummer the island is packed with cars. Trouble is, there is just one main road around from town to beaches to hills . It gets congested. Bikes and boats and buses only help keep the harbour clear at night
What used to be the first thing you saw as you came off the car ferry from the mainland.
It has finally been painted in the blue and white island colours.
Quite a difference
Our outdoor shower.
K will use this all summer. I'm an inside girl myself. I like privacy, hot water and an array of shampoos and scrubs that haven't boiled in the midday heat
Small carpets have been scrubbed, hung out to dry, rolled up and protected in bags and stored under the bed. Just the big living room carpet left.
A banana box 😂
Athletic grandaughter takes a banana with her when she's rowing. Clever container isn't it.
No squashed banana for her
Tortoises are out of hibernation. This one is making its way to the compost pile for a tasty snack.
Great snapshots of island life there. I can feel the heat from that hard, white light... so different to our milky grey up here.
ReplyDeleteLove that banana box!
It's very bright. It's almost time for dark glasses whenever you step outside and close the shutters when you're inside .
DeleteThe banana box is ingenious. How clever.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too. The perfect way to keep it from squishing
DeleteThat hotel smartened up nicely didn't it? We saw our first tortoise too a week or so back - it seemed to know to turn up at one of the popular cat feeding places and a kind donor had turfed a few lettuces over the fence. The bikes - it might seem silly to start with but when it catches on people start to wonder why they put up with traffic jams for as long as they did. Bit jot for cycling in the height of summer tho!
ReplyDeleteThe bikes are very popular in the evening for a ride along the harbour. During the day they're all at the beach where they're staying
DeleteA splash of paint always brightens buildings
ReplyDeleteLove the sunshine in all the pics. It’s dreary grey here. Although no rain today. Which is nice
Blue skies everyday here!
DeleteThat hotel looks so much more inviting now.
ReplyDeleteIt's clean and bright even though it's no longer a hotel. It's owned by the supermarket which is located on the ground floor
DeleteWow, what a difference in the hotel! It’s amazing what a bit of paint can do….
ReplyDeleteExactly. Heaven knows the condition of the inside of the building. It was closed down years ago. Looks great on the outside. That's all that matters
DeleteI don't remember seeing Tortoises in Greece, but I do remember that every pond was filled with Turtles.
ReplyDeleteLots of tortoises around here. We don't often see turtles but they're around. Looks very to see them in their natural environment
DeleteWe are envious of your island life…..but I’m sure you have the same problems as us who live in the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteThere is something special about the Med and all its islands though
Life is not as rosy as I depict it. However the med still seems special even to me after 45 years
DeleteThe building looks nice now that it's been done up but I also like the way the it looked beforehand, quite rustic. I'm guessing you've got lots of townies coming into port now, hope they don't make nuisances of themselves.
ReplyDeleteIts going to be long noisy and very hot summer, as usual. The island lives off tourism. What can we do? Complain a little, grin, and wait till September
