The Autumn Garden

My tiny little winter vegetable garden is planted, except for the garlic.  Vegetables planted out in the earth get choked by the clover/oxalis so I use planters which are easier to keep weed free.

Rocket, spring onions, lettuces and leeks.  In other pots I have parsley, celery and still some green pepper plants.

Youngest grandaughter helped plant the leeks. It was nice to have company. This one likes gardening but she doesn't like having her photo taken

The greening of the garden.  Soon this whole area will be overgrown with clover and nasturtiums.  I love the green growth, as long as it's not in my pots

The lettuces and leeks come in bundles of 20.  I plant the surplus wherever there's a bit of space.  These are in with the hydrangea which will be dormant till spring

The thornless bougainvillia given to me by my son-in-law

We had a young lad to come in and clean the backyard.  Gone are the weeds and piles of dry grasses and branches.  Gone too are a few bags of old bits of wood, iron and assorted other treasures.

  1. Today I saw for the first time some lupine leaves coming out of the ground. Winter is coming soon.

  3. Looks awesome. I like winter gardening. You pretty much plant and forget
Then after a few months go out and enjoy
May your coming harvest be bountiful

    1. If it wasn't for the darn weeds I'd say the same but they grow faster than the vegetables

    1. Thank goodness all the junk has been removed from the back. It's an annual affair

  5. I had Oxalis all over Haddock's. I found it very depressing. I've abandoned Haddock's now, and will just grow a few Tomato plants elsewhere next year. I shall build a 'Pagoda' where once there were vegs, and make it into a BBQ area.

    1. I sneak in the leaves but certain people don't like the idea of eating nasturtiums for some strange reason

    1. We have snails in abundance . Maybe it's the nasturtiums that attract them?

  8. It's such a foreign concept to plant in the fall, for me. It must feel good to have your yard cleaned up. It looks good. -Jenn

  9. One woman's junk might be another man's treasure - good to have it gone! Tigger and F used to have a 'burn-up' at the allotment from time to time (usually at night so no one could complain about us smoking their washing). Tigger loves a good fire....
