Today

Today is sunny and the island is quiet.  The western easter is coming up fast .  We will have a few tourists, strangers, either from outside Greece or more likely from Athens if the weather stays warm

Vaccinated Israeli tourists are being welcomed into the country, Dutch tourists are allowed to travel to the island of Rhodes.  German tourists are arriving in Crete and the government hopes to open the country and begin the 2021 tourist season at the beginning of May.

The world begins to turn again.  When we are able to sit in the sun beside the sea and order our coffee from the waitress of the cafe from across the road then all will be well in our neck of the woods.

Today I get my first jab of the astrazeneca virus.  I will be going across the sea to Galatas to the health centre there.  Hip hip hooray.  I'll be on my way to getting some protection from this virus and I will be having an outing away from the island.

In the meantime here are the obligatory photos
The car ferry

Last Friday's vegetable market

One of the little island kiosks.  Open from dawn till dusk everyday selling cigaretttes, beer, chewing gum and most things inbetween

  1. Is it true we would be able to travel out of Athens - even to Poros by the end of this week? Mr B has just had his PCR test so he can go home to UK for his vax and for work. Congrats on getting yours. No side effects we hope, and enjoy your day away from the well worn circuits.

    1. You can come to Poros on the flying dolphin because that way you're not crossing county lines. We are part of Attiki. They are talking of opening up travel. Rumours are you'll be able to move. Won't know till the official announcement on Friday. I'll let you know

  2. I hope your AZ vaccination goes as well as mine did Linda.
German tourists on Crete? I thought that Germany was having another surge and is back in lockdown, or have I misread the news? I think I would stay away from them just in case!

    1. Can't understand about the Germans at all. I'm sure they all have been tested -hope- and are supposed to do some sort of quarantine. However it is a strange decision. Same with the ditch on Rhodes

  3. Congratulations on getting your vaccine! Ontario is only now saying that those aged 70 and up can register for their vaccines. It's going to be a long while before everyone is done. I am looking forward to one of your posts written about sitting at a little open air place, drinking wine and looking out at the water! -Jenn

    1. They are vaccinating 65-69 year olds here. But on islands like ours everyone whatever the age is getting a jab. Living on an island has many benefits.
It won't be long, No it won't be long, You listening?? It's time for a bit of social drinking whether it be water or wine

  4. Good luck with the vaccine. Here, too, life is beginning to be less quiet than it has been in the past year.

  5. I've read reports of people in Crete being angry about the German tourists being allowed in - it seems that some of them are filming a'reality' TV show in Chania which is still in the Red Zone ! Glad you're getting your vaccine !!

    1. I can understand why the Cretans are angry. I would be too if I lived there. It's far too early

  6. That little island kiosk seems to carry everything any one could need. Especially if the beer is chilled.

    1. The beer is chilled all right. And you can buy a bag of crisps to go with it

  7. Don't see how the gov. can not open back up again. For the tourist season. Not doing so, is like cutting off your lifeblood. Not *yours.* The country's.

Ahhhh the machinations, to deal with the China/Covid life.

    Gentle hugs...

  10. Good luck with your needle, hope all goes well, nice you can have a ferry trip along with it. Hopefully all those Germans coming to Crete are vaccinated. Not very caring to the locals otherwise.

  11. Good luck having the vaccine. I hope it doesn’t hurt too much
It will be lovely to once again be normal without worrying about another breakout and lockdown

  12. We're still waiting to be notified of when we can get our vaccines here, sigh, goodness knows when that will be, the process for getting people done has been so slow.
