Tom Hanks has just acquired Greek citizenship and his wife Rita Wilson is Greek/American. They have been coming to Greece for years for summer holidays and own at least one island house. Right now they are inviting the world to attend the 200 year celebration of Greece's Independence from the Ottoman Turks in 2021.
The Bicentennial will celebrate 200 years of the modern state of Greece. Hanks and his wife have released the video above, inviting everyone to join in. They are great ambassadors, cheerfully sending a positive image. Just what we need right now.
Interesting that this anniversary is coming up with things as they are right now with Turkey. Not nice. I like Tom Hanks and I am glad he is such a great ambassador for Greece. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly what I was thinking . 200 years of conflict. He seems to have been given a smack on the hand by the EU . We are waiting to see what happens next

I have always been a fan of Tom Hanks. Glad to see that he is actually a good guy.
ReplyDeleteHe cleans up beaches here and helps locals, donates to victims of wild fires. I think he is one the genuine good guys
DeleteI'm a big fan ~ what a great thing to do to promote the anniversary.
ReplyDeleteTom and Rita are true Filohellenes, lovers of greece
DeleteWell done Tom. I can think of a lot of worse things than becoming a Greek citizen, and owning a house on an island. Good for him!
ReplyDeleteApparently he owns houses on two islands. He gets a lot of publicity wherever he is in the summer and takes take in community activities
