Invasion

Every time it rains we get an invasion of earth worms.  Huge worms.    They look like gentically modified earth worms.  They wiggle like mad and can escape from a paper towel or napkin with which I squish them with the swish of a tail.

Everytime it rains these huge monsters somehow struggle under the front door even though there is a draught excluder glued on to the bottom of it and try to flee across the tiles .  I open the door in the morning after a downpour and there are half a dozen curled up on the doorstep.

Not nice.  I don't want you inside my house crawling under the furniture

Making a beeline for the interior
I don't want you either.  Look at the dirt they leave behind
Yuck

As for these things...
at least they weren't alive when I found them, in the autumn clean up.  Called forty-feeters in greek.  Believe me I didn't count their feet.  But I did hold on to them long enough to take a photo and show the grandchildren.  Look what Nana found where you were sleeping.  Naughty Nana

    1. Prefer these to mice but I would prefer NOT to have the wildlife inside my house!!!

  3. Earthworms are dying out in the UK and Ireland and the song thrush population has declined by fifty percent. We get spiders in the house sometimes.

    1. Spiders are welcome here. They eat the mosquitoes. Spider webs are a bit unsightly though.
Sorry to hear about the thrushes. I remember watching them when I was young in nz. I once thought earth worms were declining here too. Not any more.

  4. I first thought they were snakes !
I wonder if they are good to use as fishing bait ?
I'm with you on the critters inside the house, I'd rather them stay outside :)

  5. Ohhhhh mercy!!!!!

Do the old folks say, they have always been around???

If not, have there been any scientific experiments done, anywhere in the area?

Could they really be genetic manipulations?

    Eeeeeeek!!!!!

    1. They are huge which makes me think they are not earth worms but something a little different. Husband has never seen them before. We do have normal , much smaller earth worms in the garden.
And why do they want to come inside. That's what I can't understand!

  7. The one thing (actually there are several) I dislike in the house more than others are big centipedes, that run around the walls at night.

  8. I am thinking could you add a brush draft excluder to the bottom of the door?

  9. oh and please check if these worms are New Zealand flat worms. They eat native worms and are an invasive species here in the UK as Dave said all our worms are dying out

  11. Wow! I guess it could be a lot worse, but I don't think I'd care for the worms :)
