Fish, The Family Dish

The mediterranean is no longer full of fish and finally local fishermen have been stopped from discriminately putting out nets and hauling in greedily whatever is on the sea floor.  Amateur fishermen are no longer allowed to lay nets and the fish that are caught must be a certain weight and  in season.

There were always laws but mostly no-one took any notice of them.
I hope it's not too late to save what fish is left in the med.

Fortunately we have a fisherman in the family
He doesn't often go out but when he does he will bring home supper, for us and the rest of the family

Fish must be eaten 'so they say' with some sort of greens.  If we don't have a lettuce salad or some boiled greens then these big watery squash are just as welcome.  The seeds are discarded, in fact I got told off for not removing them before serving.  The squash is covered in olive oil, lemon juice and oregano

This is a very good catch.  I don't know what they are but a couple of them are small tuna.  Enough to feed four families

  1. Another one of the Not-Joys of the world we now live in.... Depletion and pollution of our fish living waters.

Lucky you have a family member, who can supply the family.

    1. K loves fishing and so do the kids. They dont go out often so we are not over-catching ourselves at least. But fish are much harder to find now, naturally. When we do have fresh fish we all enjoy it. Me ...yes to the fish but really dont like that squash!

    1. Another reason we should only catch a few. These are delicious when eaten fresh and freshly cooked. Fried fish is not so nice once it is cold. Huge catches by amateur fishermen are just not right. They should catch what they can eat that day and no more!

  3. Love fish
Hopefully governments around the world help us protect
Fish populations so we can all continue to eat them

    1. They are only just starting to obey the fishing laws around here but still a lot of the fish caught are far too small. Thankfully K understands, and lectures, that the fish must be given a chance to grow and reproduce. Others arent so understanding

  4. Olive oil, Lemon juice, and Oregano, must be the official flavours of Greece. They appear everywhere.

    1. I agree. You cant get away from these flavours which is fine, most of the time. I dont like lemon on fish because it hides the taste of the fish.

  5. It must feel good to be able to provide the supper for the family.

  6. Luckily they all love these fish. Other types aren't so popular.

  7. What's the name of the fish? I haven't seen those before. We are hoping to go out on our boat tomorrow.

    1. Hi Amy, they are called 'serrtis' here, which will not help you. I have no idea what the name is in English. Maybe they're a med fish
