Day to Day

The days are running into each other again.  We have another strict lockdown in the greater Athens area of which we are part.  It doesn't make any difference to us.  We just stay at home more and walk the backroads, as we always do.

Last week before the covid cases came too close for comfort we managed  a swift trip to our nearest city for a new pair of glasses, a car check and a LIDLs shop.  We didn't even stop for coffee.  No excitement, nothing much of interest to note or photo.

We also managed to squeeze in an enjoyable afternoon with the family.  Another load of wood conveniently arrived with the children, convenient for us.  They were all chain ganged into bringing it up and stacking it at the back door.

My brother downunder sms-ed us when he saw the video I sent

Bringing in the wood
Bringing in the wood
We shall go rejoicing
Bringing in the wood.

The kids werent exactly rejoicing but many hands got it done very quickly and then we settled down for a bbq.

An evening walk around the back of the island looking out towards the mainland.  One lone little, illegal,  fishing boat.

3 Xmas cards and a calendar arrived from NZ this week.
It may be the last of the christmas mail, the 2020 xmas mail

The weather has been brilliant but the forecast is for snow on Sunday.  It's a funny old winter.

  6. Oh for a family bbq. You definitely live in a beautiful place. Funnily, 3 items of post long awaited from overseas all arrived on the same day last week. It was as if the postal service had been on leave (or locked up) for all of January - or needed a bag full for our address before coming out to deliver it.

  7. I like your BBQ area. I've been thinking of building a new leafy-covered BBQ terrace, but I'd need competent help and muscles; neither of which I have at the moment.

    1. Our BBQ area is also Ks work area so it always needs a good clean up before we can sit down but it is so handy being covered and has jasmine alone the side in the summer

  8. I miss the coffee stops too and the people watching which always made a trip to the shops more fun. You sound to have plenty of firewood whichever way the wind blows! Keep warm.

    1. Keeping warm has been a whizz this winter. Lots of sunshine. I wonder what summer will bring. More mild weather I hope. And time in coffee shops!

    1. That photo was taken at dusk on my phone. I'm surprised it turned out so well. Just a bit darker than it actually was

  10. At least you are staying in your family bubble, probably the safest thing really. Send me via instagram your address, maybe I can put together a kiwi gift box for you.

    1. Oh Amy, that's so kind of you. I'll send you my address but don't worry, we just got a huge box from my family in NZ! Pineapple lumps, Whittakers rum and raisin, that beautiful pohutukawa mug, hokey pokey. OMG. We all went wild.
Usually we have yearly visitors who bring us a whiff of the homeland but I think it maybe a year or two before they can come again

Great to have your firewood all organized for the next couple of years - you certainly have a wonderful family around you.

    1. Thank goodness the family is mostly on the island, the greek family anyway. It brings us a lot of joy and we damn well cant complain. We see them often even if only over the garden gate

  12. We were going greqt until today and we have now been out on a five day lockdown starting at midnight
Hubby has started on our wood pile for winter. Summer hasn’t been that great. So we think winter may be long and cold. Hopefully not

    1. Our neighbour Vaso told me the other day that summer will be the same as winter. I dont know if she meant every year but this winter has been very mild so I hope our summer will be mild.
Your summer has been so different from last year. You never know.
We see your news most nights on the greek news. You seem to be quick with the quarantine so maybe it will be over quickly.
