Our crazy neighbour has been shooting up the neighbourhood again, celebrating with his girlfriend. We could hear the loud music and then came the rifle shots. 5 very loud reports then 3 more and another three. A few minutes later another barrage. Very close by.
There's that tremor of fear. Celebration? Pot shots at goats? Or someone on a rampage?
This on the day when a shooter in Athens received a life sentence for a similar 'celebratory' volley which took the life of an innocent child. A stray bullet hit 11 year old Marios while he was enjoying festivities at a school 2 kilometres away.
Bullets which go up must come down. Shooting in the air used to be a tradition at weddings and baptisms and this isn't the first time it has ended in tragedy. Years ago at a wedding in Crete it was the bride who died.
Here I go inside, close the door and hope it's not a rampage.
We get a bit of that around here. The most frightening ever was at a funeral where the deceased man had been a hunter and his son suddenly started firing a gun into the sky. I didn't know it was going to happen and was terrified. Apparently it had been agreed with the priest first and he was ok with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised it happens in your part of the world. Those bullets are deadly even if they're not aimed at you.
DeleteMost gun owners around us are responsible hunters. This one shoots the stray goats too and anything else that strays onto his land.
Who needs crazy neighbours! In fact who needs guns if you really think about it.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few hunters around but there's no hunting allowed on the island itself. It's unnerving to hear any gunshot close by
DeleteWe live near the RMAS (Royal Military Academy Sandhurst) so often hear the cadets on exercise firing guns. Sometimes, we hear people shooting pigeons in the woods, too. Anything other than that would be worrying.
ReplyDeleteWe hear other neighbours shooting at the goats now and again. They get into vegetable gardens and wreck them. The shots are muffled, coming from further away. These were close up and its the 2nd time in a couple of months.
DeleteIt's not often we hear gunshots we were are so it would scare me too, I'd be inside with the doors and windows locked.
ReplyDeletePeople don’t realise just how far those things can travel. I am not a fan of guns, and to use them to celebrate is just an insane idea to me.
ReplyDeleteThere are much better, and safer ways to celebrate.
I hope it’s all over now and no one got hurt
Not a fan of guns either, I would be inside with the doors locked!
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy! You would get in a lot of trouble if you did that here. I would be terrified if I heard gunshots nearby.
ReplyDeleteI'm not at all happy about it. Don't want to call the cops because he has two or three rifles. Don't want them turned on us. Also have to prove its him. K always phones him when this happens and he says Oh just letting off a few shots. Dont worry.
DeleteI do worry
