Harbour Views

Our island is all about blue sea and sky.

Small fishing boat called a kaïki. Those are leaves in the water...... Not dead fish

Waiting for the car ferry across to the island

Thar she blows!
The Nisos Poros - Poros Island

Hellenic Naval Training Ship
Evgenios Evgeneidis
Built in Dumbarton in 1929
Now retired and permanently moored on Poros

The Straits of Poros
400 metres at it's widest
Connected to the town of Galatas on the mainland by water taxi and car ferry

Son in law Yiannis at the top of a mast mending..... something or other

He's sitting in a sort of sling, attached to ropes
Grandson George is down on deck coordinating and keeping the sling steady

The picturesque tumble of houses.
Taken on a day when red Saharan dust covered the deep blue sky.
This is a photo taken from the car ferry. Visitors often ask me to point out our old house where daughter Elli lives now.
I can find it easily.  It's not at all easy to pinpoint it for others

The narrow house with 2 blue shuttters
You can imagine the view from the roof terrace
Wonderful for photos of the sunset.
The header photo on my blog was taken from there.
Great place for a g&t on a summer night

  3. I often think of Greece as being really colourful with blue skies. I'm sure it's buzzing over Summer.

  5. Our skies are a bit grey this morning, and the sea a bit dull. Poros demonstrates why we Brits go on holiday to such lovely places.

    1. Tourist always stick out at this time of the year. We are still in long sleeves and they're in skimpy summer clothes

  8. Stunning - all of it. We sailed in there on quite a few occasions and I did my boat parking test for my Day-skipper licence alongside a crowded quay at Poros.

  11. I have quite a few of your posts to read back. What a wonderful world you have there. I remember once sitting on one of the Greek islands, I think it was the island of Tinos, I saw the houses on the mountainside and wondered to myself how the people who live there go down and up the steep roads there every time. Of course, even then I was very jealous of anyone who lives on a Greek island.
