No!

 No. Not Poros!

Our supermarket is selling Xmas trees
20 euros for that scrappy little one on the end.
We want a smaller tree this year.  K first of all is going to try and shorthen the tree we've got.  I'll let you know what happens

Decorations and gifts
I did buy a small gift.
It's coming, want it or not

I actually started writing this a few weeks ago.  It was quite a shock to see Xmas decorations in October on our little island.   I went out yesterday and took the photos and looked aound the harbour.  No other shop or cafe seems to have followed their lead and the Municipality isn't putting up Xmas lights yet.
Maybe the world hasn't turned upside down .

We got our first load of olive wood a few days ago.
It's getting colder.  I put the electric blanket on our bed as well.
Tomorrow I cover our chilly tiled floors with a big carpet and rugs.
We are prepared for cold, so bring it on.

Rain is forcast this week.
Will it, won't it?

  1. I was shocked when in Pirarus in October to find Jumbo stripped out and the Christmas tat being moved in - nearly three floors of it. Something Xmas in every department! Let's hope Poros keeps it in proportion. Enjoy it.

    1. Jumbo is always the first. I remember too, going into the big Jumbo at Corinth at the beginning of October and they were emptying the shelves of the back to school stuff and filling shelves with xmas junk I was shocked then too!!
Far too damn early especially for Greece.

    1. Thank goodness there is no frenzy here, says me crossing her fingers. How nice to be able to avoid it all.

  3. It’s getting earlier and earlier. Soon they won’t stop stocking Christian decorations at all. They will be on a shelf along side Easter and Halloween with Valentine’s Day right at the end
I’ve never burned olive wood. We don’t have an abundance here. Does it burn for a long time,or do you have to keep adding to the fire ?

    1. Olive wood is good for burning in the stove. It's not quick burning. Pine is good and there's plenty of that but it gums up the chimney with resin. Gum tree wood is great too by the way. There are fights when the gum trees here are lopped down

    1. Hot cross buns and Christmas cake? That's plain ridiculous. But nowadays there's nothing special. So many things are available all year round

  7. Here it's supposed to be getting WARMER this week. It's best to ignore all the early Christmas hype, or it spoils it for later.

    1. Our local wood supplier brings in piles of logs all through summer. Now he's busy every day with his chainsaw and his delivery truck. The earlier you get that wood the better. Avoid the price increases for a start

  9. I saw mince pies in the shops up in Bowen….for Christmas in July.
They’ve been in the shops down here for a couple of weeks now, goodness knows what preservatives are in them - or maybe these one’s aren’t supposed to last until December but be eaten now

    1. I had forgotten about Xmas in July. You could legitimately be eating mince pies just about all year round. Maybe there's such a demand that they are making endless pies. Or maybe they're full of preservatives. I have to make my own

  10. I wish we had a pile of logs like yours. Are they expensive? À garage near us wanted 9 Euros for a fertilizer bag of logs. Ouch!

    1. A ton of wood, which is more or less the back of a pick up truck piled high, cost us 180 euros this year. That's a friendly price. If we bought it elsewhere it would be 200-220. We are lucky to have 2 neighbours who sell wood and are good friends
