Last of the summer outings
The Greek Navy band put on a concert on the waterfront.
K and I were one of the first there and got a table at a cafeteria nearby. There were chairs put out in front of the bandstand and they soon filled up. Far too close. It was loud enough where we were sitting
They played for just under 2 hours which was plenty for me. I knew most of the songs they played, greek of course, so that helped me enjoy it more. K and his friend were singing and clapping along.
There were a couple of singers too, encouraging the crowd to clap and whistle. I didn't see any dancing this time, except for our friend who got up and did a twirl around the table.
It was a pleasant summer evening, we had a few drops of rain, awnings were lowered but it passed over quickly and awnings were raised and umbrellas closed to get the harbour breeze.
Hurrying through the coffee and souvenir shops to grab a good table
On the way home we were treated to another concert.
I gave him a few euros.
I love these street musicians. They give a few moments of pleasure as I pass by.
You were very wise to sit further away from the band.
ReplyDeleteLoud Greek music is not my idea of fun. A few hundred yards away would have been better. But hey, my husband loved it. Ti na kanoume....what could I do
DeleteIt has taken a year away to start to realize how much of Greek culture I miss. House, garden, job etc have kept me busy, but i read your blog and hear the sounds, feel peple enjoying what they have grown up with, taste the good, feel the soft warmth of the evenings. Even with covid having clipped the wings of the lifestyle while I was there, that lifestyle managed to embrace us.
ReplyDeleteYou have lived the life here. The summer evenings are full of noise, laughter, people enjoying themselves. I like wandering along the waterfront, admiring the yachts, watching the families taking their 'perantzatha' and having a coffee or two
DeleteSounds like a great evening xx
ReplyDeleteIt was actually .
DeleteSounds like a fun time!!
ReplyDeleteK enjoyed it more than me . Thank goodness he had a friends to sing along with
DeleteI love how you all get together and enjoy a simple evening’s entertainment
ReplyDeleteI think I have to come to poros just so I can get a bag with the mati Lol
The music was light and bubbly. And it didn't last all night . Those bags are in fashion just now.
DeleteAs a last summer outing that sounds just about right, music and a refreshing breeze.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it had cooled down. It was perfect weather for sitting and socialising
DeleteWhat a fun event. I don't think I could sit for a full 2 hours either.
ReplyDeleteThese things usually go on all night. I was pleasantly surprised
DeleteI love a big band with a big brass section. They really fill you up with music.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have much of a brass section. More greek bouzouki and clarinet
DeleteSounds great. I love the mushroom shaped light.
ReplyDeleteThose lights are really nice. I wouldn't mind one either
DeleteI really like Greek music. I used to buy cassettes of Greek singers. I still have them.
ReplyDeleteI remember you saying that before. I like some greek music, definitely not all. Some is just too middle eastern for me
DeleteI like street musicians or buskers Linda.
ReplyDeleteI love the sounds of street music and always find money to give them
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great evening out. I enjoy buskers too.
