A Saturday Night

We recently had our first night out.  Saturday night on the town.  Woohoo.  We went down to the main square for a change.  A change for me.  It's the hangout of the oldies, serious debaters and drinkers and K's friends, but not mine.

The owner was spraying down chairs and tables. He and his son wore masks.

Further down the harbour another 'establishment' was closed for 15 days and fined 15,000 euros for refusing to remove a few tables and distance the rest of them.

An early evening photo along the quay

The main square.
Cafeterias on all sides.
A favourite place for families with small children.  The parents can sit here and drink their 'coffee' and let their brood loose to play.  There are crowds of kids later as it cools down. The older generation go up  and down on their peratzatha, that
evening stroll, hand in hand, in quiet groups, in rowdy bands.

While children in other countries are going to bed  these kids are just beginning their evening of fun out of the sun

I hadn't had one of these since last summer.
After a few glasses of wine, a lot of socialising with K's cronies at the socially-distanced tables, we went for a souvlaki.

Pita bread wrapped around pork gyro, fried potatoes, lots of raw onion, tomato and tzatziki.  You have to have the bottomless pit of a teenage boy to eat more than one of these.

There are so many 'foreigners', Greeks and otherwise on the island now we have decided to stay up on our mountain and keep out of town for a week or so.

There were 50 news cases yesterday, 27 were imports. Our area is still safe and long may it be.

  1. Goodness. After a few glasses of wine and that souvlaki I would need to hibernate for at least a week!

    1. Fortunately you can get it in pieces on a plate too and then just pick at it.

    1. Good fast food! Tasty, full of salt and fat, sloppy, messy and very enjoyable

  3. Looks like a lovey time out ~ I hope that you won't experience the spike in cases like we have in the US. Unfortunately I must go to one of the existing hot spots soon, to help my sister with cleaning out Mom's house.

    1. Yes, it was nice to get out and people watch in the evening. We have been out for coffee a few times and that's enough for me

  6. I fled Athens on 13th March back to Scotland. Big mistake. 4 months cooped up in lockdown. Temptation us to escape to Athens and islands as soon as flights go. Sure you don,t want anyone from UK. But when I can will. Due to the really severe lockdown we have few cases in Scotland now. England is different, different government!.

    1. Sounds as though you'll be able to fly from July 15th. I do hope you can return. 4 months is a very long time. It was 2 and a half months for us and that was enough.
We are waiting to see if our english neighbours turn up too. For you residents it is not so much a problem. You know the score and can keep out of everyones way for a week or so till you know you're safe.
Its the tourists that are a worry. Even if they test positive and are put in isolation they still get out and wander around

  7. I don't blame you wanting to stay away from people for a while.

    1. There has been a large invasion on the island, mostly from Athens but also foreign tourists. You look at these unknown faces and keep your distance

  8. We plan to go out tonight. I'll have to phone to make sure they're open, and book a table. I'm not sure if it's really a good idea.

    1. After being at home for such a long time you want something a little different. As long as your area is mainly covid free then go out and enjoy yourselves! Give a boost to the local economy too
