Christmas

We started  decorating for Christmas  by lighting up the wooden boat, made from driftwood and odd pieces, which hangs on the wall.

This is the Greek tradition, to decorate a boat.  Down in our main square we will have, later this month, a little fishing boat and a  tree decked out in festive lights and baubles

Our traditional 'kaiki'

The grandchildren dragged out the xmas boxes from the storeroom and decorated the tree this weekend

Red and white xmas balls
Clean lines and an appealing contrast against the green of the (artifical) tree

The elves and kalikantzari are gathering
We've had these for years.  A long time ago the coca-cola company gave these away with their end of year bottles of drink.  We ripped off the advertising tabs and kept the elves, exotika in Greek
The naughtiest elves are the kalikantzari who sour the milk,  steal your food, pee in your flowers and I bet it was a kalikantzaro that has lowered my desk chair down so far my knees are up to my chin!

The good elves hanging christmas balls from the rafters

The girls decorated the tree and the inside of the house.  The boys put up lights around the fence and displayed our big bright star which twinkles at night on the roof top.  And the men partied on

Kala Hristoyenna!!

  1. How lovely!
Down in Peel harbour some of the little boats are decked out with festive lights twinkling. Perhaps their owners are Greek???
I love your elves too, so cheeky.

  2. More traditional decorating....

Love a Christmas Tree at night.

Our tree is not near a window or door, but all my twinkle lights, reflect, in the patio doors.

    1. Ready made with frosting. Sounds good to me. I'd like one that came already decorated!

  6. I'm trying to stick to the 12 days of Christmas; without too much success. I like to start the decorations 6 days before, then take them down again 6 days after. My wife sees things differently.

    1. Made me smile. I'd like to stick with the 12 says of Xmas, no 18! 6 before and 12 after. My husband sees differently. He who had no western xmas has now become a xmas monster!

  7. I think it's worth putting up the decorations when there are still children about.

    1. If we didn't have the young ones the decorations would be minimal for sure!

  8. When I read your blog I always think how amazing you are, a New Zealander with a completely Greek family who made her home on a Greek island with a Greek husband. I think it is great.
