Greek Glenti

Glenti  (γλεντι)    spree, party, revelry

The beginning

Dancing comes naturally as music and  wine move  spirit and  body

Lamb off the spit, sleeves rolled up for the carving, machete in hand

First the wire and bolts are removed

The head is off

Brain removed and the delicacy 'demolished'  by Elli

Second sitting of the 'dining room'
A bit more relaxed now.  Half the guests have left and a bit of the mess removed.  Time for a more restful glass of wine

The end.

We thank you sheep for your sacrifice on this most important day in the greek calendar of feasts and fiestas.  This  was  the most tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned of lambs.  Well done boys

Till next year ......

  1. We roasted a whole Lamb for my 50th, but it came without the head! Your terrace looks as if it's designed for food!

    1. The terrace is just wide enough for a line of tables and director type chairs so we can all sit comfortably and move around.

  2. I bet you had a wonderful time, even if you do need a week to recover from the exhaustion. I'll stick to helping with the biscuits. ;)

    1. Three days later and I'm creaking all over. I'm too old for this nonsense.

  3. Lots of celebrating going on. Do people in Athens do the same as islanders?

    1. 200,000 cats went through the toll gates outside Athens taking families back to their villages for Easter. Thousands left by bus and train. Extra boats were put on for the islands. Athens empties. Many of those that remain roast lambs on rooftops and pavements. It is a major Greek tradition.

    2. I would love to visit Athens one day. I am pleased to hear that they are as good at celebrating as their islander brothers and sisters and cousins.

    1. We did have a good day but cleaning up took days. Is it all worth it? I would like to attend someone else's show next year and just sit back and enjoy it all!!
