Out But Not About

I had a short stroll down our deserted road this morning.  I usually turn left out the gate, up the hill, round the corner and up to the rubbish bins.  Turning right takes me to the end of the cul-de-sac and past the olive groves.  There are no permanent residents down this road but usually there are a couple of neighbours who come daily to their farms feeding chickens, tilling a piece of garden or inspecting their olives and grape vines.

Only the wind in the pines today

A lone poppy amongst the rocks
Spring is somewhere in the air but the
weather is turning to cold and wet again, and windy

Nets to catch the olives just dumped and forgotten after November's harvest.  This piece of land is abandoned except for the olive harvest

My nasturtiums are climbing over the wall onto
 our neighbour's driveway, overgrown
Just before Easter they usually arrive and strim the drive.  Not this year

One of our own lemon trees
and the garden swing, waiting for fine weather to be scrubbed and moved onto the terrace

And another lone poppy, growing beside Vaso's fire pit where she dragged and burnt the olive trimmings after the harvest
April 1st today, no more fires till October

  1. you boomers are shutting down the entire economy because you're afraid of a flu. Seriously, can you boomers kill yourselves? You are the most selfish generation to ever exist. You don't give a shit about climate change, why should we young people give a shit if you get sick and die of some virus? I HOPE the virus gets much stronger and kills you all.

Do you boomers realize how universally hated you are? There is not one single demographic that does not hate you- white people, black people, asians, mexicans, indians, chinese, millennials, GenX, GenZ. Something tells me that you boomers are not going to have a very comfortable or easy retirement, especially once you end up in the retirement homes.

Can you baby boomers hurry up and fucking drop dead? Enjoy your retirement homes cause we younger people will not take care of you even if we wanted to, due to the shitty economy you boomers created. Do you boomers realize that the younger generation is simply waiting for you to fucking drop dead?

You are all going to end up in retirement homes and we all know that the elderly gets treated pretty badly in retirement homes. Well, that's what you get for ruining your own children's lives. Even if your children WANTED to take care of you, they couldn't, due to you boomers destroying the economy. So I hope you enjoy the retirement homes, boomer scum!

  2. I'm disappointed now I read this - I had thought "Anonymous" had a future as a writer (as per my comment on yesterday's post), but now I set's just a copy and paste. Tsk tsk, does he not recognise the value of rewriting when seeking to improve as an author of fiction?

    1. He'll be relying on his children one day too, a burden on the younger generation for sure. I can imagine what they'll have to put up with from an old grump like him.

    2. There is a not non-zero chance he won't get to procreate though. Imagining hooking up with someone so angry and bitter! I can't think he'd be very much fun to wake up to ....

  3. I do love your posts, showing life on your island - whether good and bad! Poppies and lemons! The fruits of your kind and gentle climate.
I am feeling rather sad tonight and this has cheered me up. Thank you.

    1. Glad I could do something positive. I've been eyeing those poppies for a few days now and finally had the camera with me. I wish there were more. Hopefully they're just the first of fields full of colour
That would definitely bring a smile of pleasure

But you don;t have near neighbors.... Or I am dense... :-)

No fires all warm season. Good idea.

    Stay safe.

    1. There are houses around us which are occupied during the summer, or the olive picking season. This couple come at Easter and Xmas, usually .

  6. I think nature is having a field-day without humans to keep it in check. Who knows what else will pop up for you to see on your walks? :) xx

  7. Those same nets are left out in piles in our Chestnut woods. I love those rocky outcrops in the Olive groves; so typically Greek.

    1. It seems odd around here to have those nets dumped. Vaso takes exremely good care of her nets. Washes them down, mends them and then stores them for the next harvest. My s in law also did the same. These nets I noticed are nylon and maybe dont need so much tlc.
