We are pretending it really is spring and doing some of the seasonal changeover chores that need to be done. Last weekend we scrubbed half a dozen small rugs and hung them over the railings to drip. We had two days of sunshine, just enough to get them all dry.
Every autumn we put down carpets over the cold tiled floors and every spring they are taken up, cleaned and stored in plastic bags in the shed or under the bed. We still have 2 big carpets to come up but I think it will be June before the weather settles enough to complete that job.
Just like the gypsies hanging their clothes over the bramble bushes
One little poppy in the back garden
I remembered that I had sprinkled seed heads from poppies in the front garden a few years ago. None of those have sprouted so I was very happy to see this lone poppy.
Another poppy has opened. I have a clump!
They are growing everywhere now, beautifying many a rubbish heap
All our roses have masses of blooms and even more buds
That is a lovely rose.
ReplyDeleteIt's in full bloom and beautiful. Next to it is a white rose which just came up by itself. It had loads of flowers too but is not at its best any more. Brightens up the fence line
ReplyDeleteA wave of heat here, all the beautiful roses that bloomed here withered quickly.
ReplyDeleteA pity. I love the colour and there are roses eveywhere this year. We have them in the front of the house as well
DeleteOne of the things that has stayed with me from our recent visit was the abundance of wildflowers everywhere. Clouds of colour covering rocks, pavement and walls. Wild and beautiful .
ReplyDeleteWe went off the island one day, turned the corner and I too goggled at the abundance and the colour of the wildflowers.
DeleteThey truly are natures beauty
Gorgeous rose and poppies. Do you take rose cuttings or layer them?
ReplyDeleteGood question Dave. Just dont know the answer. Most of our roses were already there when we bought the house. This particular one was bought as a small plant. Ive tried cuttings but I dont remeber any actually growing. As for layering them, no idea what that is. Sorry
DeleteYour roses are gorgeous! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt is the year of the rose!
DeleteWe have a difficult time with poppies. -sigh- But our neighbor grows them, with abandon. -poooohhhh- So it's not just that we are in a colder climate than you. She is toooo.
ReplyDeleteA micro-climate? Some people just have the knack. Whatever they plant flourishes. Not me. Love poppies
DeleteLove when seeds just thrown around around and they grow
ReplyDeleteMakes me believe in miracles
That's what I do with most of my squash seeds that I save every year. Amazing the humber that grow and provide a few squashes. But this year I have downunder pumpkin seeds!!! I have 6 plants now and I am nurturing them carefully!
DeleteMust be nice to see some colour in the garden, I planted some poppies last Spring and they didn't come up,perhaps to will sprout in Spring.
