Nels

Just boasting.......

Nels. No, not Poppi this time.

Nels. Sister of Poppi.

Dietician. Nutritionist. Beautician. Athlete. Rower.

She has put many family members on weight losing diets. We're a family of losers thanks to her

This is the granddaughter who runs 15ks, phone in one hand, taking photos without breaking stride.

She has dozens of medals and cups for rowing but gave it up to study.

A few years ago.....
Rowing for Poros
All the grandchildren have tried rowing and they've all won medals. It's naturally a popular pastime on a Greek island.

Her hobby is hair styling, fashion and beauty.
For friends.
And her grandmother

I got my nails done.

Poros island, permanent population around 4,000, has many talented young people and has produced a few world champions.

An Olympic silver medalist for rowing at the Beijing Olympics.
Poros also had rowers at the 1960, 1980 and 1984 Olympics.
 European and Balkans Triathlon winner.
European and Balkans WaterSki champion.
European and Balkans Kayak and Canoe gold medalists

Nels will be working on the island of Lipsoi this summer .
Give it a Google. It has been named the best holiday island in Greece.   It's an island of unspoiled beauty, not a party island.

Lipsoi
Tiny island in the Dodecanese
Population 800
 Crystal clear waters
Sandy beaches
Fresh seafood from the Aegean
Homegrown lamb and goat
Thyme honey
Local cheeses
Fokiano - sweet local red wine
3 day Wine Fest every August

  1. That's not boasting, it is being a proud grandmother...I would be bursting with pride at her hard work and achievements, too. I hope she has a wonderful summer. Well done, Nels!

    1. They're all good kids. Thank goodness they didn't have to grow up in a city jungle

    1. Thanks for the spits. Well done 😃 Look for the Blue Hotel. It's being run by family this summer. Tell them you know all about it from reading a famous Greek blog 🤣

  3. Your youngsters have had good lives and are now reaping the benefits of that plus hard work.
As JC said - you have every reason to be proud!

The other island sounds like my kind of place. You should work for the tourist board….bookings might increase due to this post.

    1. Lipsoi became well known in Greece because a Greek terrorist hid out there years ago. I rather think it's changed. Really looks like paradise now

    1. They've had a great upbringing in a peaceful environment. Much better without the temptations of Athens.

    1. I scratch my head sometimes about those genes but there are some super achievers in the downunder family

  7. If you grow plants you might know that F1 seed means first cross (two different varieties brought together because they produce vigorous/successful offspring). There is also such a thing as F2 - which I guess would be your granddaughters ....benefiting from what you brought to the family.

  9. You have every right to be as proud as punch , you have a very talented family. What an adventure Nels will have this summer. My mother was called Elinor but everyone called her Lynn except my grandmother. She always called her Nel or Nellie!

    1. Funny how names just seem to evolve. Everyone else calls her Nelie. A few of us call her Nels. Her name is actually Eleni.

  11. Your lovely granddaughter's hobbies are very similar to my granddaughter's who is only 14, (except rowing of course).

  12. Seems like you have a very clever family. I would love to have a family living nearby who can do my hair - what a luxury that would be.
