What's hot in the tourist shop.
All sorts of silver jewellery in that blue colour which, all over the med, is said to ward off the evil eye
Hats. Always top seller on a greek island, after sunscreen No.50.
These have been in fashion for years. Or are they just old stock
Magnets, magnets and more magnets. Poros island, blue sea and blue sky. I love fridge magnets. There are plenty, mainly from NZ, holding up photos on our refrigerator.
More blue eyes for protection against envious and nasty thoughts.
These are big glass eyes which can be hung over a babies cot, in the car or on your donkey. They will ward off flat tyres, endless grizzles or a stone in the hoof.
Next to the eyes are t-shirts. 'I was here', sort of souvenirs to show off when you return home
Those big glass eyes would give me nightmares!
ReplyDeleteThey're watching you! But only in the nicest way. It's either the big blue eye or being spat on 3 times. Take your pick!
DeleteWe were given a blue eye when in Santorini -- I didn't know the significance and I think, gifted it to a grandson. Everything you have shown is in the gift shops all over Greece... wonderful memories of our holidays there.
ReplyDeleteMy family is considering returning in 2023. I hope its all over by then!!
DeleteThose eyes are quite spooky. Everything very blue like the sea and sky.
ReplyDeleteBlue and white. The colours of Greece!
DeleteI wouldn't mind one of those glue glass eyes, they are a beautiful colour. I wonder if donkeys mind wearing them?
ReplyDeleteThey put straw hats on the donkeys as well. They can't say much, except eeeyore lol
DeleteI need an evil eye, mati, for my car once I get it back
ReplyDeleteHopefully that will stop me getting hit again. Maybe I should sprinkle some holy water and salt on it too!
Once you get it back. Heavens to Betsy. At least spit on it 3 times and toot the horn a few times. Change the juju!
DeleteI will definitely do that. Thanks
DeleteI'm sure it was in Greece where I saw a shop with small metal 'stamped' images of ears, noses, eyes, feet, hands, etc. I believe they were bought to leave in a church somewhere to ask for 'healing'. I wish I'd bought a pile of them, they were fascinating.
ReplyDeleteYes, those metal images are sold anywhere there is a church. ie all of greece. You leave it with a prayer in the church and hopefully the Saint will see to your sore leg or head
DeleteI also like fridge magnets. I have most of them from Finland.
ReplyDeleteI have fridge magnets from all over. The fridge is full of them.
DeleteI would love one of those hats. I wear an hat all the time and feel lost without one.
ReplyDeleteThere's a good selection here, as you can imagine. Gotta keep that sun off
DeleteNo blue eyes for me! Unfortunately my fridge won't take magnets, my one regret on my stainless steel fridge. I would buy a cross! And visit all the tiny churches (and big ones too). :-)
ReplyDeleteYou would love the tiny ones. And the Monasteries!
DeleteI would find it hard to choose something but no doubt B would buy one of the hats.
ReplyDeleteI started collecting fridge magnets on our travels because they were the cheapest souvenir. Now people bring me magnets from their travels.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the blue eyes - and would much rather have one of those than be spat on! :))
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately a selection replicated on the 'front street' on every island I have visited so far (OK only 6 or 7, but enough to get a feeling of deja vu) and I'd love to find at least one shop that sells something handmade out of local resources with love and creativity by a local and which has very personal meaning to it
