Poros Pics

26th July, the Feast of Saint Paraskevi.  She is the one who heals problems with the eyes and is patron saint of Ophthalmologists

Sweet loaves waiting to be blessed, cut and handed around
We take to the little church 5 loaves of sweet bread, representing the 5 loaves that Christ fed the 5,000, a loaf with the Holy seal pressed into it, a bottle of oil to light the lamps, incense, a bottle of sweet communion wine and list of family members whose names are read out along with a prayer for their good health.  All this in a big wicker basket.

At the end of the service the bread is cut into big chunks and handed around.  K makes sure he always gets two of our loaves to bring home to hand out to the immediate family.

Usually I bake our loaves and Holy Bread but this year we ordered them from the baker. It was too hot to think about kneading kilos of dough.

Local vendetta.  This man has an axe to grind with the Mayor and parked his truck right in front of the ambulance so it can't get out.  You can see how long he has parked there by the number of tickets on the windscreen.
What words can describe this senseless act?  Unacceptable is the least of it.  His truck should of been towed from the first day and he should have been in front of a judge.

Someone at the big hotel needed the ambulance the other day, so we heard, and they had bring one over from the village opposite.
I haven't been down in the last few days, since I took this photo, but apparently the truck has been moved.  I hope they find a suitable place to park the ambulance too.  Not on a footpath.

Our lending library is still in operation.  It has books in all languages.  You go in, browse and take what you fancy.  If you've got a book to leave there in its place, even better

  1. I nearly said a swear word. The man who blocked the ambulance in is a prat. The browsing library is a great idea. I could do with sorting through my ever growing books collection. Hoarders of the world unite.😊

    1. He needs a few swear words. The vendetta has been going on for years and both are in court. This is not the way to get revenge.
There is a great assortment of books. You never know what you'll find

  2. I think that truck should have been towed away to the crusher and the proceeds from the scrap metal donated to the ambulance service.

    1. Now that's a great idea. I'll pass that on!

  3. He might have seen the folly of his ways if he'd had a heart attack and needed the ambulance.

    1. Exactly. Dont want to wish the man any harm but ....if it had been him or his family who needed the ambulance he would have moved it damn quick

  4. His gripe might be with the mayor but it shows how much he thinks of his neighbours -any of whom might have needed an ambulance. I do wonder about the powers given to traffic police if they could only give a ticket to someone blocking emergency services vehicles. I'm with those who said towed and impounded and a huge fine to be paid to the ambulance service (or crushed if not paid in 7 days.... my goodness I'd be a evil dictator!)

    1. The vendetta is a long going affair but the rest of us have nothing to do with it. He couldn't care less about Poros or its people and he has shown this attitude over and over again. This was going too far though. I hope he's fined or sent to jail

  5. What a selfish man, he is threatening the life of every person who might have needed the ambulance. He must have been very angry with the mayor to do that. I think his car should have been towed and crushed too.

    1. It was all a bit complicated. I suggested that it should have been towed too and K gave me some explanation which I couldn't understand. Towing a vehivale is not so easy. The tow truck has to come across from the mainland but it should have been towed.

  7. It should have been towed and crushed, and no-one admit to anything.

    1. That should have been done on day 1. And no one the wiser as you say.

  8. Oh what a silly selfish man, he's only making things worse the the ambulance crew and any patients they might have. I hope someone read him the riot act.

    1. Thank goodness no smoke and no smell this time. The smoke is being blown away from us. May it continue to do so and all those fires be put out
