A Morning Coffee

D-day

Cafeterias and eating places opened today and so did all the greek islands.

Greeks can come and go now as they please.  The tourist season officially begins on June 15.   International flights to tourist destinations within the country begin on July 1.

Perfect weather for an outdoor coffee
We weren't going out today but after a phone call from family we scrambled to find going-out-in-public clothes and went down to the green chairs

A big hot capuccino, good company and more than a few laughs
Just like the olden days......except that there were no yachts tied up

........ not even a rowboat
Only the car ferry was moving across the straits down this end of the harbour

Down in the centre of town the water taxis were out lined up, now each taking 15 passengers instead of the 2 they were allowed last week

Most of the cafes were doing a slow trade today.
It is still just locals so there was little traffic and just a few out walking.  I imagine this will slowly change

Tonight churches will hold the Easter resurrection service and  churches will be open for all parishioners. This is the  service  they held back in April without an audience.  Christ was risen but only on their TV sets.

    1. It was just like old times, coffee, family, gossip, small grandchildren tripping in and out. Just not so many people.

    1. Slowly slowly. Having coffee on the waterfront though is a huge step. It was very enjoyable

  3. Sounds as if you are ok with the opening up. Certainly hope it is fine, and only brings a good season to your Island.

  5. Bet there was lots of love and laughter that morning. How did you all go with the dreaded 'social distancing'??

I've had the same clothes going in the wash for weeks now - It took ages to decide what to wear on our drive up the road the other day:)

    1. I've been out in the car a couple of times and didn't bother about good clothes but yesterday I really had to scratch my head to find something socially suitable lol

    1. You are so right! One of the reasons we enjoyed it so much was the lack of people going and growing!

  7. Hopefully it will be ok and you won’t get a second wave of infections.
Our restrictions are slowly being lifted and all anyone can talk about is the second wave

    1. Predictions are that there won't be a second wave. So we've been ok with schools back and so many Corona parties in parks around the country. Cross fingets

  8. The Cafés and Restos will need your patronage now more than ever. I do hope your influx of tourists don't bring anything nasty with them!

    1. It's definitely the tourists who may bring trouble. Our main crowds come from Athens but any influx brings danger. One day at a time

  10. I always wear the same clothes but now it is shorts as well so I have to put something on to cover up when I go out. The only time of year I go out in shorts in England is if it is August and in the high temperature range that we sometimes get then. Otherwise I stick to keeping covered in public! I would love a coffee out at the moment, starting to miss a leisurely hour over a coffee and a newspaper watching the world go by. As you, I also just take each day as it comes. x

    1. I wouldnt have gone out yesterday but it was family that called and I also wanted to see what was going on down on the harbour with the opening of cafes. Not much it appears. Darn nice capuccino

    1. I'll go out again maybe at the weekend and see if more have ventured out. Of course it is very quiet because it's locals that are around still. Lovely to see the family anywhere except over the garden gate!

  12. My goodness what a difference. We were there by yacht twice late last summer and they were 3 deep along there, and big (BIG) motorcruisers moored stern-to. Enjoy the peace and family-ness of the scene before the madness returns.

    1. Nothing at all, no yachts big or small. I was surprised because some of them winter here. Maybe they moved down the other end of the harbour, or back to Pireaus
