'Deaf' Week

This is 'Silent' or 'Deaf' week for us.  Time to clean house and home and prepare for Easter. I had a haircut and colour yesterday. That's me done.

The week ends with Saturday of Lazaros and then Palm Sunday

Then it's Holy Week. There's a special church service everyday winding up with the candlelight parade on Good Friday and the great Easter Sunday celebration

K got into gear and arranged for our annual garden clean up

Sani from Pakistan our happy helper
He had a huge smile on his face when I asked if I could take his photo

Ks 'treasures' are still there round the edges but the jungle of weeds has been conquered. He didn't leave a blade of green

This photo is from the internet but this is what we did before Easter every year when we lived in town.  We whitewashed all our steps and walls.
The municipality white washes the steps and alley ways now. Or they will if the rain ever ends.
Sani says he'll come back next week and whitewash our garden walls.  What a great lad

Covered in red silt

More cleaning

Down on the harbour they're sucking this away quickly

  1. The Saharan dust has been making a mess everywhere - not good for the lungs either, I expect.

    1. Lungs and eyes. When it's really bad they issue a health warning. My eyes are always itchy and watery

  2. Your Sani is perhaps a bigger treasure than those around the edges of your garden 😁
Every week is Deaf Week for some of us 😅

  3. I think we have just had deaf week, or Holy Week, preparing for Easter. Today was especially quiet around here and I hardly heard any vehicles at all. I like Good Friday. The weather is still awful and, of course, fuel costs a lot. Rachel

    1. You've just had Holy week. Here it starts on Monday. The big difference with Deaf week is that there are no church services. Those start again on Monday too. It's still wet here but temps I hope will rise. Good Friday, Saturday and Sunday are big celebrations

  4. We saw pictures of the dust storm blowing over Greece and I wondered whether you had been affected. Holy week is finished for us, Resurrection Sunday tomorrow and then back to ordinary days for a while. Enjoy Easter.

    1. Thanks. There's always a lot going on around Easter, at church and on the island. We have quite a few foreign tourists and the greeks will start arriving now.

  5. In France when we have a Saharan sand storm, it's usually pale ochre colour, and rain soon deals with it. Yours seems totally different. Where does RED sand come from?

    1. It's a dark red, and the covering is thick! Maybe it's a combination of sun and dust.
And the dust is sticky. It won't wash away wiith water. Everything has to be sponged or scrubbed

  7. Luckily we've been spared the dust here in Corfu. And finally the rain has stopped !! Once things have dried out a bit I'll set to and asvesti my steps and round the house. Hopefully that'll placate my neighbour who did hers about 3 weeks ago.

    1. Yiassou Jane in Kerkyra. I bet Yr neighbour is sorry she asvestized so early 😅😅 Yours will be so much fresher and brighter. We always used to do ours in the old town. No one bothers nowadays. It's only what the council does
