Sunshine

As I predicted. We woke up to sunshine. A bit cold but it's still early.

I've put a load of washing on. Later we will go out and get  a few supplies.

Bread and wine

It's Saint Nikolas fiesta day.

Happy name day to my niece Niki.

Saint Nik is patron saint of the Navy and all those who sail the seven seas.

Are there only 7?

There's a big church service at the Navy Base here. K should have attended but we were just a little late this morning.

Farmers further north are still revving their tractors.

On the island it is a beautiful day .  Blue skies , warm sunshine.  Calm seas. No yachts tied up.  No cafeterias bursting with noisy gatherings. Empty shops and roads.  There is peace in the air.

The valley near us called Fousa. Full of grapevines, olive trees and sheep.

Today nearly all the water has disappeared.  The land just soaked it all up

The fisherman's harbour

A bougainvillea still in glorious colour

Ks little blue and white boat

    1. Winter in Greece can seem grey and cold to us sometimes but the sun is always nearby ready to cheer us up

  2. Lovely to see the land was watered. Now here after a storm last night it is dry and sunny and even quite mild. I exercised outside. Rachel x

    1. Hi R. Those photos were taken yesterday afternoon by someone else. I went up today to take my own photos and it had all drained away
A dry and sunny day after the rain is a gift from above. We all come out to get some sun

  4. I wish I could grow Bougainvillea. No-one does where we are in France, so I presume they would get frosted. I have the perfect spot for one!!!

    1. Bougainvillias survive here in the snow. I don't know about a snap frost.
They die away in the winter and are pruned right back to the main branch. But come spring they grow really fast and are soon sprouting long waving fronds

  6. If I ever have the opportunity to come back to Greece for a visit it will definitely be in the winter. The summers are just too hot. And it looks so much less peopley. Is that a word?
    so much more relaxing
