And Australia
I love waking up on New Year's Eve and knowing celebrations will begin in just a few hours as NZ and then Australia enter first into 2026.
Our midday news will show fireworks lighting up the sky over Auckland City.
The afternoon news will show the fireworks display over Sydney Harbour bridge and it's iconic Opera House.
Down in Poros town bands of children are going door to door banging triangles and singing the New Year's eve Carol. It's a tradition that is still very much alive.
K misses all that and hopes that some of the neighbourhood children will ring our bell.
There are only a couple of children
up here and none appeared on Christmas Eve so probably there will be none today. He has a purse full of small bank notes just in case.
The children are given a small monetary reward. More from us out in the wopwops.
Wishing you all a joyful New Year's Eve .
I will probably be in bed by then.
Grandchildren in Athens will be opening Champagne, or another bottle of vodka. Those who remained on the island will be celebrating with their friends on the waterfront, kissing cheeks and yelling greetings along the harbour.
Church bells will be tolling merrily, the car ferries will be tooting away and the whole town will be lit up
K, if he is awake will be phoning friends and sending messages on Facebook. Maybe I'll be awake too and I'll pop the cork on a bottle of Prosecco. Then I shall go out to our front gate and smash a pomegranite. On the road maybe. They make a mess.
Coming back inside I'll make sure it's right foot first over the threshold..... even though I'm left-handed.
Happy New Year to all my blogger friends
Good health and happiness to you all

Happy New Year Linda....๐

ReplyDeleteI, too, shall be in bed but I'm sure the new year will arrive without my help ☺️
I've celebrated many New Years with crowds and whistles and bows. I'm sure I'll be in bed before 12 but Ill have the new year on my mind and just might creep out at 12 to see what's happening. Nothing up here except maybe a gunshot or 2.. I'll break that pomegranite, have a drink and go back to bed
DeleteThere have been fireworks recently, a build-up to tonight's racket. I shall be in bed - it's just another day - grumble, grumble. Happy New Year from Mrs Scrooge!
ReplyDeleteUsually there are ore celebration fire crackers let off up here. But it's been very quiet. Temps went way down and it's raining.
DeleteIt is just another night, another day.
I'm sure you have celebrated on the past. It's time for peace now.
It’s real here now…I actually have stayed up to see the New Year in ๐

What's the significance of the pomegranate? i had to work then afterwards enjoyed a quiet cup of tea. Happy new year to you.
ReplyDeleteThe pomegranite is supposed to bring wealth and happiness. Don't know why we have to smash it on our front door. It makes a helluva mess
DeleteHappy New Year to you and the family! My kids will likely be celebrating (although the oldest manages a bar, so probably will be working). Romeo and I will be in bed, although if there's a ton of fireworks, we may not be sleeping. :-).
ReplyDeleteI too want to know about the smashing of the pomegranate....
That pomegranate is supposed to bring luck but we are supposed to break it on the front door so the house fills with lucky seeds.
DeleteUmmm, not here. I'll break it on the front gate so the seeds fill the yard..... And then I can hose it down lol

ReplyDeleteA milestone means a big celebration, family, feasting, drinking and of course being kissed..... by beautiful Lady M and daughter ๐๐
DeleteYou'll manage I'm sure ๐
Happy New Year to you and yours dear friend. No partying here, I raised a classic glass of sherry and off up the wooden hill at ten o'clock :)
