UpDate

We've been back home 5 days now. Just did the last lot of washing. The first day back we had rain and the 2nd wasn't much better.

When we left it was still summer but now there's a chill in the air, more rain on the horizon.  Definitely autumn going on winter. We had already ordered the first load of firewood. K gave our woodman a call and told him to get it here this week.

I've been feeling 'off' but hopefully today is turn-around day.  There's work to done. The house has to be 'wintered' though we did start that before Poppi left.  Heavy curtains have been put up.

Here are the last photos of the beautiful park at our holiday resort.

Canna lily

A grove of Eucalyptus trees

This one was a giant. It's been around quite a few years.

Still trying to find the name of the tree with the big hard brown seed casings.  An Australian bottle tree was suggested.  I can see why it's called a bottle tree.

But this is the tree where I collected the seed casings. The seeds look similar but the tree does not have that bottle shape.

A greek hibiscus, so I'm told. It does look like a hibiscus but the flowers are so much smaller than the ones I know from NZ.

October is going to be a busy month. We have more visitors this month than we had all summer.  Tavernas and cafeterias should all remain open till the 28th which is a National Holiday and, weather permitting, all the island will be out celebrating.
I hope it stays dry. Temps have dropped to 22o.  That's a big difference from a month ago. Enjoyable though for those from colder climates.

  1. I would be very happy indeed with temps of 22C !!! It's hovering around 15C here this week, wet and windy with it.
Hope you feel better soon x

    1. 22o means it's a little chilly at night but nice for working and moving during the day. 15o not so good. Duvet and heavy jacket time. Not yet I hope. But it's coming

  2. It definitely looks like a Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton). They have long seed pods and from what I read online they will grow in Greece

    1. The seed cases and leaves look similar. My sis in law in Perth has sent me a site about the boab tree. The tree looks very different, the seeds not so much. Your Queensland tree is closer.
Australian flora does well here. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was Australian

  3. The venerable eucalyptus is beautiful. The temperature sounds ideal. I hope whatever ails you soon departs.

    1. Eucalyptus grows well here. We have rows of them on the island. Great firewood too

  4. I hope you are feeling better. There has been a nasty flu going around here for the last 6 weeks, we got hit with it twice.

  6. Much cooler here too, but it remains sunny and dry. Up in the North they had nasty storms recently, but not down here. I think we're in the right spot (fingers crossed).

  7. Our weather i the same. After the equinox it was like someone turn a switch. The days are warmer and the winds now come from the north. That’s our hot weather. South is cold down here

  8. Wish I could join you for some of those days when you have visitors. I know your man does some great grilling and I long to visit some of those Greek tavernas. Perhaps in another lifetime.

  9. I'd feel 'off' coming home after a nice relaxed holiday. I hope the winterizing goes to schedule and you ate well ahead of temperature drops.

    1. The washing was miles high. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere even though the house was closed up. And our first lot of visitors are here. Sometimes I think it's better to stay at home

  10. Like you we are preparing for winter and a load of logs is expected on Thursday or Friday.
I hope you are feeling better now and will be able to enjoy your visitors.
