Lovely days with family have come to an end. First my Australian family and now my New Zealand family.
The kiwis have left, flying South. Kiwis are flightless birds but this bunch seem to have found some wings.
Till we meet again my dears ...some sunny day
Their last evening coincided with K's birthday.
We gave him a party and a birthday 'cake'. He got to blow out a candle and after 'happy birthday' in English and Greek young Poppi sang it in Spanish.
The 'cake' was a tub of icecream with 0% sugar. Great idea Danae. Everyone could eat it. And they did
We put up the big banner they brought last year.
'Happy Birthday Kostas'
with a photo of us both
K filled the table with pork and chicken and lamb and lemon potatoes. And there was plenty more
The last supper
At Sofia's taverna
Piles of grilled chicken 'chops' (small pieces) and naturally a greek salad.
That sign says
'if you didn't book you're not going to get a table'
It was the fiesta of the Holy Spirit, 40 days after Easter, and the island was FULL.
We ate early, at 12 , so they didn't have to rush to catch the afternoon Flying Cat (Catamaran). The greeks eat much later so the taverna was relatively quiet.
I didn't take any photos of them walking up the gang plank. It was sweltering hot and there were crowds of holiday makers with their suitcases waiting to board.
Poppi went back to Athens with them and guided them through to their train to the airport. She has another month of studies before the University closes for the summer
The famous grouse... I mean chicken. Rainy has been told by her doctor, so she says, to eat plenty of salt. This is very own salt shaker, polished till it glowed in readiness for her arrival. Now it's been put back somewhere safe till next time. Will I remember where?
The gin and rum won't last till their next visit!
Luli, Poppi and Nels
The chicken is MY salt shaker. Such a fabulous time. We loved every minute and so nice having Poppi make sure we travelled safely back to the airport. Last year the lovely Nels did the same ❤️
ReplyDeleteI won't let anyone else use it. Promise. I Kota tis Thia's Vrohoula 😅
DeleteAunty Rainys chook
You've had such a lovely time with family that it must feel rather flat now that they have left.
ReplyDeleteThree beautiful grand daughters, how wonderful!
It was an amazing time. Now we are in for our very hot summer. I'll hibernate
DeleteSuch lovely, happy family photos. I bet you can't wait until the next visit.
ReplyDeleteFortunatelt theyre a family of travellers
DeleteAt least you have lots of happy memories of their time with you.
ReplyDeleteLots of very happy memories
DeleteIt’s wonder when your family comes to visit.
ReplyDeleteWatching them leave to go home would be hard.
I know when I left my aunt in Greece, the last time we visited, that we would never see each other again.
She has since passed on. And I treasure those few days together.
None of us are getting any younger but hopefully there will be more visits. Everyone loves Poros
DeleteWonderful to have family catch up time.
ReplyDeleteJust marvellous
DeleteYour three granddaughters are cute. Your gin and rum are appealing (though Judy won't allow gin in the house). Your family looks well-fed and Kostas looks proud. All in all, a great visit.
ReplyDeleteK just loves having everyone here. We are lucky grandparents. The girls live on the island and the grandchildren like the life
DeleteAnother lovely family visit comes to an end,and so nice for it to coincide with Kostas' birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual to be told to eat more salt and that little chicken would make it so enjoyable to do so.
She is extremely healthy and athletic. Cant remember why she was told to eat more salt but it certainly hasnt done her any harm
DeleteHappy Birthday K. I was in an antiques barn in Blengeim today and unearthed a book on the Battle of Galatas. After our exchange on the Maori Battalion in Crete I very nearly bought it but the price was rather high. (Problem with shops that bill their wares as antique - vs second hand...)
ReplyDeleteI have a few books on the ANZACS in Greece. Most of them were written by returned soldier. Theyre extremely interesting. Books pop up now and again in the book exchange here. Turned in by downunder yachties I presume who exchange a more serious book for a bit of fiction
DeleteI wondered what your hubby's name was LOL as you refer to him as K. Happy birthday to him. I'm sure everyone had a great time.
ReplyDeleteLast winter I bought myself a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum instead of my usual Single Malt Whiskey. It was delicious, and there's still some left.
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughters are adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry we weren't able to get together!
