May Day

 1st May

- A day to gather flowers and make wreaths to hang on doors, gates, your car.

I was so busy with Easter I forgot to find flowers and make a wreath. I foraged from neighbour's walls and gathered some rose and red geranium, pink and white oleander and made a bouquet.

My daughter bought this gorgeous wreath from our garden shop!

- A day of news black-out because all the journalists and news crews are on strike.

In fact it's a day of general strikes, marches and riots.  But we won't hear about it all till tomorrow morning.

- This year it lands in the middle of Holy Week and the granddaughters have been busy making easter biscuits, koulourakia.  Tomorrow on Holy Thursday they'll be here again dyeing red eggs.

    1. I used to make a real wreath. It's quite hard but happy result. Too intricate for me now

  2. Easter traditions with the family. It is wonderful that your girls still come and make the special treats with you. You come across as a very loving family.

    1. It's all held together by Pappou who is a traditionalist. The grandchildren have almost flown. Alas. Only one will be left on the island next year.

    1. It's starting to get very dry. The wild flowers are finished already. Not enough rain this winter

  6. I celebrated May Day by picking-up my car from the garage, and going shopping. What fun!

  7. Shopping is fun! So is picking up a good running car. Definitely things to celebrate although it doesn't include flowers.
