My sunflower has died.
Alas poor thing
I shall replace it with another
Not a sunflower
This is what's going into the sunflower pot
A bougainvillia
With no thorns
A pink bougainvillia
Which doesn't grow up to the heavens waving its thorny throngs
But stays low and doesn't slash and sting
It's an unexpected present from my son in law . He's a great cook, the captain of a water taxi and loves flowers and plants.
Pasta flora
A greek jam tart
Made with my apricot jam
What jumping gnawing thing has dared to eat my large leaf basil?
All the leaves have great holes in them. A grasshopper maybe, a praying mantis. I hope the cat catches it
The second time a small pipe leading from the petrol tank has perished and all the petrol has leaked out leaving me stranded. Fortunately both times it was on the hill outside our house so I could roll it down home for the man-about-the-house to fix. Wasn't that convenient
It's July. It's hot. I am not inspired
The Greek jam tart looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnother way to use up my abundance lol
I’ve tried to grow bougainvillea here. But where I live we get terrible frosts and they die
I might try again under a tree
Stay hydrated
Hi Angela. I must add to that photo that the Bougainvillia was a present from my son in law . Good chap .
DeleteYou can't stop them growing here. This is a different variety. Smaller apparently
Something has had a really good meal of your basil, shame they can't just eat one or two leaves and leave the rest for you. Your apricot tart looks amazing. The bougainvillea here is growing all over the place and waving its thorns at you when you approach!
ReplyDeleteThose classic bougainvillias are a damn nuisance. They need pruning every so often and are downright dangerous. Hope this one is thornless as it is supposed to be
Deletewow that tart would look good with cream and I bet the bougainvillia would do well in the warm temps there.
ReplyDeleteThat tart was darn nice with icecream!!
DeleteBougainvillias grow very well up north of nz I seem to remember. Ive seen some great photos
I love the look of your tart! Yum...
ReplyDeleteThat is very lucky that your auto broke down close to home!
I was very lucky with the quad bike. I've had to push it before and its not easy. Its a heavy clumsy thing
DeleteWe have a whole field of Sunflowers right in front of the house; I'll take pictures later. I feel for you with your quad. I spent much of yesterday afternoon putting Rory (ride-on mower) up in the air, and cleaning out all the accumulated muck from around the blades. I was stung by wasps, and managed to bash my head on a concrete block.... expletives were heard!
ReplyDeleteSome days are silver some days are just plain rained on with bad luck. Spit 3 times and turn yourself around.
DeleteHuh. I didn't even know they had thorns! That dessert looks yummy. It was very hot here, but has cooled down so much today, I've closed windows. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThe thorns are very long and very sharp. I've ended up with serious wounds pruning ours - till we cut it down and got rid of it
DeletePoor sunflower. The random ones in the garden here all suffer woolly mildew this year but have flowered, dropped seeds and we're on our way to a second crop. Poor spindly things. We hope your bougainvillia thrives. The basil is a mystery - caterpillars? Gourmet cats?
ReplyDeleteThis sunflower just seems to have dried up. I'm going to see if it has any seeds I can save
DeleteWhat a shame about the sunflower. I always think they are so cheerful I would love to grow one but our season up here is much too short.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to grow basil many times but it always seems to get infested by tiny white mites. I have given up now.
I love sunflowers, sunny and as you say, cheery. Pity this one gave up the ghost.
DeleteI did not know that there is a bougainvillea without thorns. I will look for one.
ReplyDeleteThey have loads of different varieties on sale now. Most have no thorns and some flower all through the year. Ask around!
DeleteThank goodness for men with Mr Fixit hats on, and also for hills to park on! :)
ReplyDeleteI've had to coast down our big hill to the petrol station a couple of times when I've run out. The darn quad bike doesnt have a petrol gauge.
DeleteYour tart looks very tasty. I didn’t know bougainvillea had thorns. Stay cool.
ReplyDeleteWe've started swimming now so staying cool is slightly easier.
DeleteI was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
