28 October

Greek National Day 2020

No parades by the local school children, no singing of the national anthem, no Municipal band, no speeches, no wreath laying, no traditional dancing in the square.  Because of the lousy weather, rain and thunder, there was no drinking of coffee followed by ouzo and lashings of fatty pork either.

There was a church service but only a few people are allowed into the church, wearing masks.  We didn't attend.  I presume the Mayor turned up with a few big-wigs.

We always fly the flag on National Holidays

    1. Still a few months to go they say. Cases are increasing here so we'll be isolating again I think

  5. Back to total lockdown here. I do wish people had abided by the simple safety measures, then we wouldn't now be having all this isolation again. I despair!

    1. Over and over we are told 'wear a mask, wear it properly, keep your distance'. Very simple but apparently it makes a huge difference . Yet so many refuse and now get fined or wear it as a chin strap. I get so mad!

  6. Wasn't that rain heavy at time. We were on the Perama ferry in one (under cover) and it looked like someone was using a firehose from the top deck. Needless to say there was flooding on many streets and workmen desperately digging trash out of drains. What a miserable way to spend their national day.

    1. It didn't rain too heavily here though a friend sent a photo of her driveway, just across on the mainland, and she had a flood. Very good for the garden
