It's official. We have the virus. Schools are closed for 14 days. No concerts, theatre and no spectators at athletic matches. The owner of top Greek soccor team Olympiakos has tested positive for the virus. So have Tom Hanks and his wife. They appear to be self isolating down in Australia.
Coffee shops are still open and as busy as usual here but elsewhere people are staying at home.
Hey, what to do with schools closed and the sun shining. Lets go swimming. Only the crazy side of my greek family would and did do that. A picnic on the beach. Good idea. A plunge into the freezing Saronic Gulf? Nothing to them. They have been plunging all winter.
A deserted cove.
Fun in the still-winter sun
Watched only by a herd of goats.
I can think of worse ways to self-isolate. Still cool, wet and windy up here.
ReplyDeleteI read this morning that Tom and Rita Hanks are reasonably well and very cheerful about their condition. Luckily they do not seem to have any bad symptoms.
They've the lite version. Just a nuisance having to be isolated for 2 weeks. There are 100 cases here now.
DeleteI love it, such a great thing to do, go to the beach and plunge into the sea. Makes me feel happy reading it. The Arsenal game was postponed last night because some of the Arsenal team had come into contact with the Olympiakos Chairman so it was considered prudent to self isolate the players. Bit of a bore because the game had been fitted in with special permission because it was a Champions League night and this was a league game.
ReplyDeleteThe Wolves are supposed to be playing Olympiakos tonight. I wonder if that will be cancelled.
DeleteIt is scheduled to be played behind closed doors, i.e. without spectators.
DeleteWe will be watching the game at home again. I'm surprised they haven't cancelled it completely.
DeleteAnd now the Arsenal manager, Arteta has the virus and now all games are off until 4 April.
DeleteThe virus is spreading quickly. Definitely for the best
DeleteBy *we* you mean Greece. Not on your island...?
ReplyDeleteMany things are cancelled here. And colleges are extending students being home for Spring Break, indefinitely. Classes by computer.
We all need Courage! And Common Sense! Sounds like you have it!

Sorry, yes, I meant Greece, not our family or the island. Here we are all happy and healthy.
DeleteCommonsense yes and also sensible precautions
I gather you don't join in with the plunging into freezing waters? LOL, I don't think I would get more than my toes wet :))
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourselves and stay safe, Mxx
I used to swim in winter but shudder at the thought of even getting my toes in the sea right now.
DeleteI'm sure we'll all be fine. Heard from my neice that NZ has only a few cases and it's not spreading. Hope it stays that way
It's not that quiet here, people are still buzzing around living their daily lives, positive to know that we only have 5 people who have it though everyone else seems to be self isolating the minute they don't feel well which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteNZ seems to be handling the virus very well. We still haven't quite grasped that self isolating is necessary, essential. Greeks are such social people. they have stopped the kissing and hand shaking...mostly
DeleteThat sounds like the perfect way to avoid all the panic. I could sit at that little cove all day long; goats or not.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. Wish I had been there too. Sea and peace. Great combination
DeleteTom and his wife are in the hospital in Queensland and one of our ministers has tested positive. I fear it’s only a matter of time before we are told to all stay home
ReplyDeleteI’m kinda looking forward to the rest to tell you the truth lol
Stay safe
We start our isolation today. I'm going to enjoy it though I don't know about K.
