PS

Does anyone else find that they hear better when they're wearing their glasses?

When I'm talking to someone I always say, 'wait a minute' and make sure my glasses are on my nose and not the top of my head. My understanding of the conversation definitely depends on whether I can see faces and lips moving, whether it's greek or English.

And I'm one of those people who wear glasses to see anything more than a foot away but take my glasses off to read a book or a telephone....which is why I often have them on the top of my head.

  1. Being someone who is hard of hearing... I _have_ to face someone, to understand them.

Partly, because the voice (or any sound) has to travel in a straight direction, for _me_ to understand it.

Second, because I read lips, to some degree.

    So, I see your point.

'Course, I always have my glasses on, having bi-focals. -smile-

  2. As I have a severe hearing impairment I too have to face someone and watch their face when they speak to me. It helps to lip read to a certain extent and also to pick up cues from their facial expressions. I still mis-hear sometimes though, which can lead to some embarassing conversations at times!

    1. I know that embarrassment, pretending to understand something in greek and getting it totally wrong.
Can be funny, or cringe worthy

  3. You might like to try multi focal glasses. I put them off for years, but now I am so glad I have got them. I just keep them on all the time

  5. My sight is the opposite to yours, I can see perfectly well at distance, but not close-up. This means I can easily buy cheap 'off the peg' glasses to cope.

    1. Sometimes I wish my eyes were like that. Even here you can buy reading glasses for a few euros and find them everywhere ,from the Chinese shop to the chemist
