Mid Winter Coffee
Looking through the plastic-surround of the coffee shop to storm clouds coming down very low over the hills opposite
Thunder and lightening, heavy rain and then suddenly large pieces of ice fell out of the sky
Outside and inside
I grabbed coffee cups, the cushions on our chairs and made a hasty retreat. The rain and hail was so fierce it came in through every opening it could find in the awning above and the plastic surrounds
Action stations
The awning quickly became weighted down with water and ice
The long ladders were used to push the awnings up so the ice slid down to the street but still there were splits and holes
That's the Green Chair cafe down the other end of town
Everything covered in a thick layer of hail
Main Street Poros
School is out
Happy kids playing in the 'snow'
We were all excited by this rare, for us, phenomenon
Viber, WhatsAp and Instagram were inundated as photos were sent from one end of the earth to the other
Oh such fun. It wasn't only the school kids who were excited. We had to retire indoors for a red wine and some strong spirits
That's quite large hail! I don't doubt that it made some holes! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt is the biggest I've ever seen but I have heard the can be the size of golf balls
DeleteWow, that is a lot of hail, we have had to replace two roofs because of severe hail damage, and a car or two damaged.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to quickly get to shelter, despite it ruining your wine-time :(
Hugs,
~Jo
I've heard those balls of I've can be huge enough to do severe damage. Can't imagine being in the middle of it! Noise must be deafening
DeleteI don't think you should show pictures like that. For me the Greek Isles are permanently sunny, with shady tavernas serving freshly caught fish and Greek salads. Beware the tourist board; they'll do you for defamation of character!
ReplyDeleteHard to imagine that picture right now!
DeleteThat does look cold.
ReplyDeleteNot that cold actually. Winds from the south were bringing dust from the sahara
DeleteI know the sort of hail storm, but not for Greece! That looks cold and oddly out of place.
ReplyDeleteVery out of place as you and Cro note. This is the winter of rain rain rain and a bit of hail. Good for the olive crop and the grapes as everyone keeps on saying.
DeleteEvery few years it happens here too, and with that joy in the streets and homes.
ReplyDeleteI bet you all get out and play!!!! What a sight for you
DeleteFreak weather seems to be on the rise. Hail damages lots of plants
ReplyDeleteFortunately it didn't harm our lettuces or spinach. Not much left out there now except a cover of clover which loves this weather. Did damage elsewhere
DeleteWhoooooo-ho!!!!!!! Fun for all! Except the shop owners.
ReplyDeleteGood reason for something stronger, than coffee! :-)
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨
Actually I only had half a glass and f wine. Too busy sending photos to social media!!!
DeleteWild weather all over. It looks pretty glad the kids had fun at least
ReplyDeleteVery strange seasons north and south. Hope summer doesn't bring nasty surprises
DeleteWOW! Strange weather for your part of the world! I would love a good storm right now! Too hot.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be steaming down under. Hope it's not a sign for us. Can't stand heatwaves
DeleteHigh drama - I imagine the young ones loved it, I know my grandchildren would have thought it great fun!
