Another washing machine has been dumped in our front yard. Can't complain this time. The machine out the back gave up the ghost and even our expert can't bring it back to life. This one was being carried away from the house of a local Irishman. Or is he a Norwegian. Who cares. He's rich enough to throw out his appliances at the first sign of fallibility and buy new ones. It's our washing machine now and with a new hosepipe and a tweak or two it cleans as washing machines should. And it's out the back!
Sotiris by the sea. We went for a wine and a meze.
The sun was going down and soon the lights of the port were twinkling. The front tables by the water were reserved. That's summer. Even at this early hour the taverna was busy. We could not be given a front row table and we've been steady customers for the last 20 years.
That's ok. The islanders are working, making money. We'll have our waterside table again in September,
The fire truck is ready and waiting. I wonder why there is not a firetower on one of the high points of the island. Any whiff of smoke would be spotted immediately.
Dried broad beans. The ones at the back are still in their shell.
They are shelled. drizzled with olive oil, oregano and vinegar and eaten with garlic sauce

I like this every day stuff.I wish i had a tavern by the sea here.

Living where tourists come, that's the attitude! Locals are making money. You get the prize places back, when tourists have gone home. :-) Same here.
Dumped because we were looking for a good old washing machine! Our friend collects all the rkitchen appliances for recycling and anything he thinks my genius husband can revive is brought to us. I don't mind them out the back where I can't see them. When they are in my front entrance I get very annoyed!

Just about everything is drizzled in oil and lemon juice here. I prefer most things plain. If you put lemon juice on something then it will taste f lemon juice

ReplyDeleteThose broad beans were huge! When dry they were the normal size. I soaked them about 24 hours and they just soaked up the water till they turned nto giants.

The washing machine fairies left you a very useful gift! May it chug along merrily for years.
ReplyDeleteI would happily eat a dishful of those broad beans, while sitting somewhere in that taverna and watching the sunset.
I don't like the fresh broad beans very much but I do like these with the garlic sauce.

ReplyDeleteHe used to make a bit of extra but now it is a dodgy business. Best left to people who have all the right papers even if they don't pay their right taxes. Handy man to have around the home though!

'Stuff' is often offered to us, dropped off, foraged for. The poor kids one day are going to need a few big lorries to dump all the 'stuff' somewhere else!
