A greek island holiday

What better way to start than at the Glyksima, the 'sticky cake shop'.  

With a windowful of sticky cakes.  Large trays of baklava, round, square and in  crisp, gooey triangles topped with pistachio. Chewy honey sweetness, takes you straight....to the next one

A beer, or two at the multi-coloured chairs 

A drink includes a snack, a meze.  Not enough to fill you up.  Just enough to soak up the alcohol and give you an appetite for more, of both

Learning the local sport, chilling out with the locals

Some learnt quicker than others.  The ladies who shop take a break for a gin fizz and a B-52

A midsummer's night in town with greek dancing, an order of souvlaki from the next door taverna and quite a few ouzos and g and ts

The folk dancing was performed on the waterfront by  a group of  German-greeks

The most popular dance though was (and always is) Zorba's dance, executed with great skill by three local lads who have won prizes for their dancing all over the country.  This is music every tourist recognises.  The dance starts off quite slowly and builds up the tempo till they are literally flying away.

A taverna  where every visitor of ours must dine.  Sotiri's on the sea.  You can feed the fish from your table

Just the starters.  Toasted bread drizzled with fresh olive oil and oregano, sliced octopus in oil and vinegar, fried zucchini, tzatziki, feta cheese parcels and a carafe of wine

That's the Naval School in the background.  At night the view is of the classical buildings illuminated by spotlight and all the lights of Poros town, the yachts in the bay and the twinkling street lights of the villages on the mainland

Our friend Yiannis makes sure that everyone is content, well 'watered' and that no-one goes home hungry

On the house.  A plate of greek yoghurt with lots of honey and walnuts.  That didn't last long!
