After many cold, wet winter days the warm March sunshine drew us out for a coffee on the waterfront.
Capuccino and a greek coffee
Can you read our future?
I see many more coffees on the waterfront only very soon they'll be iced coffee, not hot. I can see the waiter with his tray.....don't ask where!
Your fortune can be told when the cup is turned upside down and those coffee grounds are left to drip down the sides only I didn't dare do that in public. It's a common practise, at home, and just for a laugh (as far as I'm concerned). One of my daughters has a great imagination, interprets the dark and light shadows and spins a fascinating yarn.
Not the clearest of photos. The tables on the left are all out in the sun and no-one is sitting there, not even us. The coffee drinkers are all inside the protective nylon wearing their heavy jackets. No-one dares sit in that dangerous sunshine and woe betide if they are in a deadly draught. Could be the last time they drink coffee in this cafeteria in this lifetime!
Our first meal out on the balcony, in the March sun for me, in the shade under the umbrella for K. Fish of the day, lettuce from the garden, beetroot and garlic sauce and Vaso's wine
Vaso and the family were busy burning the olive prunings today but her son-in-law sat down for a drink and some beetroot. He is fasting for the full 49 days and is not eating meat or fish (or cheese, eggs or dairy), but a glass of wine is good for the health and the soul.
And a Sunday ouzo in the sun. Clocks go onto summertime next weekend. We will have three months of beautiful warm weather before the scorching heat of summer.
It is going to be very cold in the UK this week, all week, with the temperature tumbling. I am still in winter clothes. I will see people with no coats everyday and just shirts. I often wonder how (and why) they do it.
ReplyDeleteWe're all in winter clothes as well actually. But will definitely get out some short sleeves for sunny afternoons.
DeleteCan't imagine the english in short sleeves yet. Some very hardy people there.
It's the equinox today. So hopefully the weather starts to cool from now on. Hubby spent a good part of yesterday splitting firewood
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your lovely weather. Me. I hope to be able to light the fire soon
I had forgotten all about the equinox. I usually mark it on the calendar. So summer really is on the way. Days are getting longer for us and clocks changing will give us loads more sunlight.
DeleteA good time of the year for all of us. No extremes of heat or cold.
You have reminded me; I have an unopened bottle of Ouzo awaiting my attention. I must broach it soon.
ReplyDeleteOuzo is dangerous stuff. Don't drink it in the March sun. You'll end up marching off to bed ...with a headache.
DeleteI can see a dog and a rabbit in the coffee cup...?...
ReplyDeleteWelcome dear imaginative daughter. I can see the rabbit and some smoke but darned if I can see the dog unless it is standing on its hind legs. I think I can see a turkey????
DeleteGoing to see what it all means.
OK here we go again. A dog , a good friend, a rabbit ,speed. So a good friend is coming speedily to ... couldn't find what a turkey means but a duck means money, so stick to your father he's going to get some money very quickly from a good friend. Make sure you're there when he gets it otherwise all the money will go up in smoke, na poume.
DeleteAnd something that looks like smoke.Have a look on internet what they mean!!!!
ReplyDeleteA dog is a true friend who will always stand by you.
DeleteSay here the bottom is the past, the middle the present and the top the future. So your father has a rabbit in his future?
A rabbit means you will be weak and afraid to do something but also that you'll move fast.
more soon.....
Now the brown wooden chair to the right has the perfect spot in the cafe, sunshine and view to the sea, but to get the right hyygge would need to swap it with the blue chair on the left.
ReplyDeleteAn ouzo would kill all known germs so safe in March sun, but the after effects would make me sing all the way home and swim fully clothed in a random hotel pool!.
If you wait a couple of weeks he'll have the comfortable couches out in the sun and you can just nod off for a siesta. You'll need one after an ouzo in that dangerous March sun....though by then it will be April. Ouzo is dangerous in any sun lol
DeletePerfect, siesta In a cafe on a comfy couch, wake up to a Greek coffee and baby sugary donuts to give enough rocket fuel to walk up to the clock tower. Sorted.
ReplyDeleteDonuts! Yes, with honey and cinnamon. Clock tower hmmm, long way up. We have a friend who lives right next to it so have to go up sometimes but take the back route
DeleteOh forgot about the honey and cinnamon yummm.
DeleteI,m sure it must be low calorie:).
From what I see, people seem to have stopped going in for a cup of tea or coffee and seem to wander around with those disposable cups. They are so expensive that I only ever seem to have one on a long car journey. People dont seem to make time for the pursuit of a drink and watching the world go by. I think we are missing out.
ReplyDeleteYou can get disposable cups here but you won't see people wandering around with them. They are only for the office or work place. Proper coffee is taken sitting down still!
