My Winter Garden

Winter garden on a Greek island

The garden tap
The smashed pomegranate is still there...... bringing good luck
A pot of rosemary on the left

The usual winter greenery
Nasturtiums, oxalis and other weeds
A tranquil sea of green

The sun will always shine
Even though it's lost a few rays

Rose geranium, oregano and sage
Herbs are the only crop that thrives summer and winter

A tomato plant
It came up from a composted salad and is still surviving through wind and rain and  icy sleet
At the moment it has a flower too
I'm not expecting tomatoes but it's a small miracle in my winter garden

My money plant. Also known as a jade plant
I trim it down to almost a stump and it grows and prospers again and again

Ks backyard
As usual a sea of weeds which will be cleared for Easter

  2. Every few years I plant oregano.. then end up pulling it out when it takes over. I've finally wised up and planted it in a narrow garden edged with concrete. Can't go anywhere and thriving

    1. Oregano is a very hardy plant. Mine doesn't take over, neither does the mint. But they both grow well.

  3. Your garden looks similar to mine with the same herbs that I use in cooking quite a bit.

  4. Lovely herbs, mine are contained in a vintage wheelbarrow nowadays, but still convenient to my kitchen door.

  5. am waiting for my oregano to take over in the Sounds garden. I need a few more of those ace ted plants of yours to thrive - scented geraniums would be good - the nasturtiums have finally started to behave like weeds but the pumpkins have escaped the garden and are suffocating the nasturtiums now!

    1. Oxalis and nasturiums battle for control here in the winter. In summer the pumkins are king, or queen. Im lucky they don't all grow at the same time

  6. Nothing nicer than lots of green in your yard.
I wonder if you put a cover on the little tomato plant will it thrive and give you fruit in the summer

    1. I hadnt thought about protecting the tomato plant. That's a great idea. More small plants have come around it now

  7. That Oxalis really is a pain. I had it at Haddock's, and my neighbour's cleaner told me she'd thrown a few bulbs over the wall. It was all her fault, and she just laughed!

    1. Thank goodness the oxalis dries up completely in the summer. Its not there to strangle the tomatoes and summer plants
